[01] Albania's Speaker leaves for CroatiaTIRANA, March 23 (ATA) - An Albanian delegation including some parliamentary groups and headed by the parliamentary Speaker Skender Gjinushi left for Croatia on Monday to discuss promotion of interparliamentary relations.Gjinushi was expected to meet with the President of the Republic of Croatia, Franjo Tudjman, parliamentary Speaker Vlatko Pavletic, Foreign Minister Mato Granic and other personalities of the political life, a spokesman said. The Albanian delegation will also meet representatives of the Albanian community in Croatia. Official talks will start early on Tuesday with a wreath ceremony at the altar of the unknown soldier. ake/ak/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[02] Albania, European Union hold second meetingTIRANA, March 23 (ATA) - By P. Shuteriqi: Promotion of economic and political cooperation is the main goal of the second meeting of the Albania European Union (EU) joint commission, which started on Monday in the premises of the Palace of Culture in the Albanian capital."Implementation of the common accord between Albania and E.U. on trade and cooperation signed in November 1992, is in the focus of the meeting, which will go on Tuesday," Maqo Lakrori Secretary of State for Euro Atlantic Integration said to ATA. The meeting will also define concrete steps to help promote and improve the cooperation aiming at reaching a second association agreement for Albania and later its E.U. membership. Lakrori said: "The so far undeniable progress could have hardly been achieved without a wide and ongoing support from the E.U. and its member states." He added that an evident progress was made during the eight months of the ruling coalition government in restoring public order and institutions, macro economic stability and national reconciliation as well as full integration into the Euro Atlantic community. Ermelinda Meksi, the co-chairman of the Albanian delegation and Minister of Development and Economic Cooperation, opened the meeting focusing on the three phases followed by Nano cabinet for stabilisation and structural reform, after Albania was steered out of the last year crisis. Fabricio Barbaso, speaking for the E.U. delegation, assessed the work of the Albanian government in maintaining good relations with neighbouring countries and efforts for a peaceful solution to problems, besides the progress in the macro economic sphere, income increase from customs houses and taxes and elimination of pyramid investment schemes. ake/ak/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[03] We respect FRY borders and Kosova Albanians' right to self-determination - secretaryTIRANE, March 23 (ATA) -By P.Shuteriqi, Albania favours peaceful solution to the Kosova issue, through respect for the current borders of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and Albanians' right to self-determination, Maqo Lakrori, Secretary of State for Euro-Atlantic Relations, said at the second meeting of the Albania-EU joint Commission which began in Tirana on Monday.Attending the two-day meeting are over 45 representatives of the European Union (EU) and its member countries, as well as over 50 delegates, leaders and specialists of Albania's major institutions. Lakrori also dwelt on Albania's current developments, the position of the Nano cabinet on the regional developments and perspective of Albania-EU relations. "We see our future closely linked with the Euro-Atlantic integration, as the sole way of our internal and outside development," he said. Fabricio Barbaso, EU director, made evident in his speech the determination of this pan-European organisation "to periodically reexamine not only assistance in the course of the PHARE programme, but also to realise a comprehensive cooperation with Albania, including trade, encouragement of investments and legal system." /das/lm/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[04] Protocol to implement Albanian Education Agreement in Kosova signed in PrishtinePRISHTINE, March 23/ATA correspondent Behlul Jashari reports:The protocol on implementing Albanian Education Agreement in kosova was signed in Prishtine on Monday. The agreement was signed by three Albanian representatives and three Serbs mediated by the San Edigio community of the Vatican. The protocol defines the Albanian students' and pupils' return to universities and schools which should begin in April and end until June this year. /la/das/lm/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[05] Serbian regime deports six American citizens from KosovaPRISHTINE, March 23/ ATA correspondent Behlul Jashari reports:"Serb repressive regime on Monday expelled from Kosova six American nationals, humanitarian activists, members of the "Peace workers" organisation from San Francisco. They are prohibited visit to Kosova and rump Yugoslavia for three years. The six U.S. nationals had been arrested by the Serb police and on March 21, through accelerated procedure by the Prishtine installed Serbian court, were sentenced to 10 days imprisonment and were immediately sent to serve sentence, and cut their hair, contrary to the prison's rules, according to the Council for the Defence of Human Rights in Kosova. The council severely condemns the act of arrest, punishment, maltreatment and expulsion of these American nationals by the Serb occupying regime in Kosova. /la/das/lm/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[06] Albanian Foreign Minister to visit Finland and SwedenTIRANE, March 23 (ATA)-By A. Haxhiu, Albanian Foreign Minister Paskal Milo on Monday left Albania for formal visits to Finland and Sweden, at the invitation of his counterparts.Foreign Ministry sources says that in Finland Milo will conduct meetings with his Finnish counterpart, the President and Parliament's speaker. In Sweden he will meet with his Swedish counterpart, Lena Hjelm- Wallen, with whom he will sign a bilateral agreement. Milo will also meet with the Swedish Parliamentary Foreign Policy Commission, the minister for International Development and Cooperation and with other senior authorities of this country. /a.ke/das/lm/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[07] Victory of Rugova and LDK in elections in Kosovo-According to Republican Commission-PRISTINA, 23 March /ATA correspondent Behlul Jashari report: Republican Commission, at a news conference this evening in Prishtina, released the preliminary results of the parliamentary and presidential elections held in Kosovo yesterday. Although no concrete returns were issued on presidential elections, forewarned results show that dr.Ibrahim Rugova is sure to be reelected president of the Republic of Kosovo. Further on as chairman of the Republican Commission Tadej Rodiqi said, "The votes' percentage in favor of the president of Republic is more than 90 percent in the voting districts". This same evening the Republican Commission declared that the preliminary results speak of a sweeping victory of the LDK candidates for the parliament of the Kosovo's Republic.
