  • [01] ELSA LILA, WINNER OF 36TH SONG FESTIVAL ON RADIO-TELEVISION

    TIRANE, DEC.23 (ATA)- By F. Nikolla, The 16-year-old Elsa Lila is the winner of the 36th song edition on Radio-Television. The juries set up in Tirane, Korce, Gjirokaster and Shkoder selected the song "Far from hate", written by Alqi Boshnjaku, composed by Valentin Veizi and orchestrated Edmond Zhulali as the best of the 15 songs qualified for the final night.

    In the 35th edition on Radio-Television Elsa Lila won the first price with the song "I ask the tear", written by Enrieta Sines and composed by Valentin Veizi.

    Elsa Lila is studying canto in Rome.

    Lila sang for the first time in May last year at a children's festival, in which she was selected by composer Veizi.

    Thirty-six songs, out of 102 presented, won the right to competition in the current festival.kled/lm/sh/

    [02] SOME 8 000 EMIGRANTS HAVE COME TO ALBANIA FOR CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR - Durres

    DURRES, DEC. 22 (ATA) - By S. Gjordeni: Some 8 000 Albanian emigrants, who work in Italy, have come to Albania to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

    The police of the Durres port reported that the flux of Albanians coming near their families is increasing everyday. Some 2 000 people arrived from Bari only on Sunday.

    Along with the ferry-boats of the regular lines, other ferryboats have been put on use to cope with the transport.

    Some 40 000 emigrants are expected to come in Albania near their families by the end of December, sources from the maritime agencies report. /a.ke/kled/mt/sh/

    [03] CONDITION OF THE INJURED IN KUKES IMPROVED

    KUKES, DEC.22 (ATA)-By R. Hoxha, The condition of the injured in Friday's accident on the Kukes-Shkoder road, near the Shemri village, has improved substantially.

    Sources from the Kukes town hospital say that 10 out of 18 persons harmed have now left the hospital.

    Friday's accident, in which a bus with 30 passengers overturned into a ditch, killed four and injured 18. The accident was a result of heavy fog and ice on this road axis. a.ke/lm/sh/

    [04] GANGSTER INVOLVED IN KILLING THREE POLICEMAN ARRESTED

    TIRANE, DEC.22 (ATA)- One of the criminal gang members involved in killing three policemen of the Mallakaster commissariat police was arrested Sunday afternoon by the police forces, according to interior ministry spokesman.

    Yesterday, at about 18.30 the forces of the Vlore district police department arrested citizen Gezim Mino Cuko, 26, from Patos i Vjeter.

    Cuka, after the criminal act, was hidden in the house of his uncle in one of the Vlore city quarters, where he was later arrested.

    He is the third member of this gang arrested by the police and is also suspected of committing other criminal acts. s.s/kled/lm/sh/

    [05] KOSOVA ALBANIANS, COMING FROM EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, MALTREATED

    PRISHTINE, DEC. 22 (ATA) - The number of Kosova Albanians, who are detained, arrested, maltreated or turned back by the Serbian authorities in the airports of Belgrade, continue to increase, the Committee for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms in Kosove reports.

    In the target of the Serbian police are the Albanians who come back home for holidays from Germany, Switzerland and other European countries.

    According to the data of the above committee, after the Bon-Belgrade agreement for the deportation of 120 000 refugees within this year, more than 130 Kosova Albanians have been returned, after being detained and maltreated in the above airports. But their number is thought to be bigger, because many other cases have not been denounced. /b.j/ag/mt/sh/

    [06] RAILS STOLEN IN THE AXE MJEDE-SHKODER

    FUSHE-KRUJE, DEC. 22 (ATA) - By B. Lala: In the train station of Thumane, line Tirana-Shkoder, the trains of travellers have not passed since Sunday, because on Saturday night, along with the damages due to the floods, unidentified persons stole several rails, local authorities of railway reported to ATA.

    According to the above authorities, the aim of stealing is selling scraps in Monte Negro. It is not the first case that different persons steal the rails, by paralyzing the railway communications. /a.ke/kled/mt/sh/

    [07] ALBANIANS COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR

    RINAS, DEC.22 (ATA)- By Bardhok Lila, Some 463 Albanians have returned home over the last three days to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

    About 95 per cent of these Albanians are temporary residents in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy. The rest Albanian students studying abroad. a.ke/kled/lm/sh/

    [08] RAINS MAKE THE SITUATION IN LEZHE MORE DIFFICULT

    LEZHE, DEC 22 (ATA) - By Zef Pergega: The high intensity of rains in the district of Lezhe (northwestern Albania) last Saturday and Sunday has worsened the situation.

    According to reports, there are over 8 500 hectares of land, about 70 per cent of which sown to wheat, which are flooded. The water has entered in the first floors of 800 houses in Zadrime and in 700 houses in Ishull Lezhe.

    Also 120 flats in the city of Lezhe and 25 in the town of Shengjin are filled with water as a result of the reactivation of underground water sources of Karriq swamp.

    Teams from the ministries of Agriculture, Interior, Transport, and Health as well as specialists of the Institute of Water Projects and Works went to Lezhe to see the situation and adopt the necessary measures.

    The Minister of Agriculture Lufter Xhuveli and the State Secretary for Local Government, Lush Perpali, had meetings with local government officials.

    According to specialists, about 150 tents and food aid worth 1.2 million lek are needed for the city of Lezhe and the town of Shengjin. Besides clothes and sleeping facilities for the countryside also an amount of 3 000 tons of flour and about 60 small dinghies are needed to be there in case the situation deteriorates.

    The specialists said investments of about 50 thousand dollars are needed to repair the cannel of Zadrima and to increase the capacity of five water facilities of Lezhe. pas/xh/k
