  • [01] THREE PERSONS INJURED BY A GRENADE

    KORCE, SEPT. 10 (ATA) - By B. Fejzullai: A young man has thrown on Tuesday at 14.00 p.m. a grenade in front of some passers-by wounding three people, regional police sources said.

    Eyewitnesses said that Spartak Lloshi, 17, the author of the crime, had just left a cafe and was thought to be drunken.

    The wounded were immediately sent to the hospital and their lives were out of danger. ssh/jz/ak/Z

    [02] WEAPONS SURRENDERED IN KORCE

    KORCE, SEPT. 10 (ATA)- By B. Fejzullai, Twenty three light and heavy machine guns, 484 defence hand grenades, 45 assault hand grenades, 20 automatic rifles, 116 guns and thousands of shells were voluntarily surrendered in the Korce district, Southeastern Albania, yesterday, according to police sources. sh/jz/lm/Z

    [03] SOLDIER KILLED, LIEUTENANT OFFICER SERIOUSLY HURT WHILE DEACTIVATING MINES IN ELBASAN

    ELBASAN, SEPT 10 (ATA) - A soldier was killed and a lieutenant officer was seriously hurt on Wednesday morning in Elbasan, while deactivating the mines in the territory of their military unit.

    The carelessness in the operations during the deactivation of the mine killed the soldier Luan Xhaxhi, 20 and gravely injured lieutenant officer Osman Biba, 54, a military man of the army base in Elbasan told ATA.

    It is reported that lieutenant officer Biba was airlifted to the military hospital in Tirana in a very grave situation.

    The army base of this district has been mostly attacked by the domestic evildoers during the months of turmoil. /kled/mt/sh/

    [04] STRENGTHENING OF PARLIAMENTARY, GOVERNMENT, PARTY RELATIONS GUARANTEES POLICY OF GOOD NEIGHBOURLY RELATIONS - speaker

    TIRANA, SEPT. 10 (ATA) - Strengthening of parliamentary, government and party relations guarantees policy of good neighbourly relations, the Albanian Speaker Skender Gjinushi said in a meeting on Tuesday with officials of the New Democracy party in Greece.

    Gjinushi said that Albania considers the problem of the Greek minority "a friendship and cooperation bridge and there is no political and legal obstacle to respect its rights."

    Kostandin Karamanlis, the Greek Speaker, said that he saw as very positive the continuation of increasing close cooperation for Albania's integration in the European Union.

    The Albanian Speaker met with the PASOK Central Committee Secretary. Mr. Skandalidis confirmed a visit of the Greek prime minister Costas Simitis in Tirana and that of the Albanian President Rexhep Meidani in Greece in the months to come.

    During the second day of the visit in Greece, the Albanian delegation met in the Greek Parliament with representatives of the foreign policy, of defence commission and the Albania-Greece friendship association.

    The meetings stressed that the relations between the two parliaments will lead to exchanging constant information and avoiding problems, artificially created with the Greek minority or the Albanian emigrants.

    The chairman of the parliamentary commission of order and SHIK, Luan Hajdaraga, talked about the improvements in the restoration of order, disarming of population, and others.

    The Greek parliamentarians assured the Albanian delegation that the Greek people and state will fully support Albania in international organisations and in solving present problems. /a.ke/kled/ak/mt/sh/

    [05] REPUBLICAN PARTY TO HOLD THIRD CONGRESS ON OCTOBER 29, 1997 - From meeting of National Council -

    TIRANA, SEPT 10 (ATA) - By Aurel Simoni: The National Council of the Republican Party defined on Wednesday October 29 as the most possible day for holding its third congress.

    "The congress will finally define the stands of the Republican Party," RP leader Sabri Godo said.

    In today's meeting of the National Council, the Secretary General of this party, Cerciz Mingomataj, attacked Sabri Godo regarding his last stands in parliament, which according to the secretary, were taken by the Republican leader as "a reward for the Socialist Party."

    Mingomataj, who asked the vote of confidence from the National Council, attacked Godo also in regard with the status approved before the congress, which gives many rights to the party chairman. The vote of confidence of Mingomataj was not approved by the National Council.

    The debate between Godo and Mingomataj continues since the electoral campaign of May 26, when Godo took position in favour of DP and Mingomataj contrary to it./a.ke/kled/mt/sh/

    [06] ALBANIAN GOVERNMENT DISCUSSES AND APPROVES DRAFT-LAWS AND DECISIONS

    TIRANA, SEPT 10 (ATA) - Under the direction of Albania's deputy Prime Minister Bashkim Fino, the Albanian government discussed and approved on Wednesday several draft-laws and decisions, government's spokesman reports.

    In the context of the Political Accord, signed between the Government and the National Association of Former Politically Prosecuted Persons, the government approved the draft-law on the Institute for the Integration of the Politically Prosecuted Persons, which will soon pass through Parliament for approval.

    This meeting also named the governors and deputy governors of Albania in the international financial institutions of development, like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB), the Islamic Bank of Development and the International Fund for the Development of Agriculture.

    The government also approved the decision for the modalities of accepting part time pedagogues in universities and post graduate education./a.ke/kled/mt/sh/

    [07] CONCRETE DUTIES FOR CEREMONIES TO HONOR MOTHER TERESA DEFINED - From meeting of Special Government Commission -

    TIRANA, SEPT 10 (ATA) - Under the direction of Albania's deputy Prime Minister Bashkim Fino, the Special Government Commission convened today and discussed regarding the organization of mourning ceremonies and homages to honor Mother Teresa, government's spokesman reports.

    The meeting defined the concrete duties for the conduct of these ceremonies.

    A high ranking delegation, headed by Albania's President Rexhep Meidani is expected to go to India to participate in the mourning ceremony of Mother Teresa. Attending will also be deputy Premier Bashkim Fino and other senior officials./a.ke/kled/mt/sh/

    [08] UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL CENTER NAMED AFTER MOTHER TERESA

    TIRANA, SEPT 10 (ATA) - By Driola Kaloshi: The name of the Albanian outstanding Nobelist "Mother Teresa" was given today to the University Hospital Center (which has functioned since 1930).

    "The fact that this center is named after Mother Teresa has a full meaning. The trinom which led Mother Teresa all the life: faith, hope and love, will be the motto of our work," said the doctor Mentor Petrela.

    The special government commission, established for the organization of ceremonies to honor Mother Teresa, decided on Saturday that the University Hospital Center in Tirana be named after Mother Teresa. /jz/mt/sh/
