  • [01] 80 PERSONS HAND OVER WEAPONS IN LEZHE, OUT OF 135 IN LISTS

    LEZHE, AUG 25 (ATA) - By Z Pergega: From 135 persons, who have taken weapons by list, some 80 have surrendered them, the chief of the Lezhe police commissariat, Pjerin Ndreu, told ATA.

    Near the military depot in this police station are also handed in 12 cannons of the calibre 75-80 mm, 22 heavy and light machine guns, 16 Kalashnikov machine guns, 18 rifles, 360 defensive and offensive grenades, a considerable quantity of TNT and ammunition. /s.sh/jz/mt/sh/

    [02] COOPERATION WITH IMF, LONG TERM AND BACKED IN DETAILED PROGRAMS

    TIRANA, AUG 25 (ATA) - By Eva Allushi:The Albanian Prime Minister, Fatos Nano, met Monday witht he delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In the meeting was discussed regarding the details of the program of aid, means of realizations and cooperation of the Albanian government and the International Monetary Fund, as well as boosting of relations with the international bodies.

    "The program of IMF, which consists of the macro-economic aid, should aim not only at the emergency measures, but also at the realization of the three-year project, which will help in the integration of the Albanian economy into the system of the world economy," said the Albanian Premier.

    With regard to the last concrete steps of the Albanian government towards the pyramid schemes, in consultation with the body of IMF, the working group of IMF appreciated the stand regarding the above phenomenon and the current measures.

    Premier Nano explained the aims of the new program of the government for the restoration of the Albania's economy and cooperation with the international financial bodies./kled/mt/sh/

    [03] INTERNATIONAL ADMINISTRATORS NEAR LOAN-TAKING FIRMS TO ARRIVE IN TIRANA SOON

    TIRANA, AUG 25 (ATA) - By Mimoza Allushi: Three permanent administrators, who will control the activity of loan-taking companies in Albania, are already defined. The international administrators are expected to arrive in Tirana soon, the chief of the Cabinet of the Minister of Finances, Arben Ahmetaj, told ATA.

    There are also defined the loan-taking firms, called otherwise "the companies of the list," whose activity will be controlled by the administrators.

    Meanwhile it is not made clear the fund to be injected for the salary of the administrators, but, as Ahmetaj said, there are defined the possible donors, such as World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, etc./jz/mt/sh/

    [04] 5800 NEW STUDENTS WILL JOIN UNIVERSITY THIS YEAR - the teaching process will begin by the middle of October -

    TIRANA, AUG 25 (ATA) - By P Shuteriqi: 5 800 youths will join the universities for the first time this year.

    According to the instructions of the Minister of Education, Ethem Ruka, the new academic year 1997-1998 will begin by the middle of October, while the teaching process is expected to last from 38 down to 42 weeks.

    The rectorates and deaneries are working to prepare the buildings of studying and living, as well as the other teaching grounds. /jz/mt/k

    [05] PM NANO URGES DEPUTY MINISTERS TO EXERT THEIR INFLUENCE IN CONTROLLING THE SITUATION

    TIRANE, AUGUST 25 (ATA) - By Eva Allushi: In a meeting on Monday with the newly-appointed deputy ministers, Albania's Prime Minister Fatos Nano urged them to use their influence and play their role in controlling the situation up to the level of public enterprises.

    "The public opinion is expecting efficient quick steps towards the realisation of the government program," said Nano in the meeting with 13 deputy ministers.

    He described the professionalism of the newly-appointed chiefs and the political homogeneity of the programs of the parties participating in the government coalition as guarantees for the establishment of correct relations with the ministers and other government structures. kei/xh/k

    [06] SOME 210 WEAPONS HANDED OVER IN TIRANA DURING SUNDAY

    TIRANA, AUG 25 (ATA) - More than 210 weapons of various kinds (140 rifles, 71 machine guns, 54 hand grenades, 3 heavy machine guns, 2 pistols and a quantity of cartridges) were handed over on Sunday in Tirana from different persons who were taken by lists or looted in the military depots in March this year.

    The police have the names and addresses of the citizens who have taken arms by lists, have also identified many of the persons who had collaborated in storming the military depots and will made them public in case they hesitate to surrender them, said on this occasion the Director of the Tirana Police Department, colonel Pashk Tusha./jz/mt/sh/

    [07] IMF DISCUSSES FUNDS OF ALBANIAN MINISTRY OF FINANCES

    TIRANA, AUG 25 (ATA) - By M Allushi: Experts of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) met Monday with the experts of the Albanian Ministry of Finances and discussed regarding the funds and expenses of this ministry, a source inside the ministry reported./kled/mt/sh/

    [08] 80% OF WEAPONS DISTRIBUTED BY LISTS ARE HANDED IN WITHIN 5 DAYS IN DURRES

    DURRES, AUG 25 (ATA) - By S Gjordeni: 80 per cent of the weapons, distributed by lists in the district of Durres, were voluntarily handed in during the last five days.

    The chief of the police commissariat, Arben Hasanbelliu, told ATA that "from 317 weapons, given by lists to different persons during March, 280 of them have been surrendered, as well as 8 000 cartridges and 40 cartridge clips." /s.sh/kled/mt/sh/

    [09] SOME 54 ARMS HANDED OVER IN SHKODER

    SHKODER, AUG 25 (ATA) - By Myfit Malja: According to the sources form the police commissariat of Shkoder, the number of weapons surrendered voluntarily by the persons, who took them by lists, reached today in 54. Some 116 other persons are expected to hand over the weapons taken by lists.

    Also, in this commissariat are handed in 4 heavy machine guns of the calibre 12.7 mm, and a considerable quantity of cartridges./jz/mt/sh/

    TIRANA, AUG 25 (ATA) - The police of Tirana have detained 13 persons during the last two days, who were accused of committing different penal acts, such as murders, robberies, etc, the director of the Tirana Police Department, colonel Pashk Tusha, told ATA. /kled/mt/sh/

    [11] THREE APPOINTMENTS IN POLICE COMMISSARIAT OF LEZHE

    LEZHE, AUG 25 (ATA) - By Zef Pergega:Three appointments have been made in the police commissariat of Lezhe, Northwestern Albania.

    According to the sources from this commissariat, chief of order in this commissariat was named the major Ali Allaraj, chief of road inspection was named the major Ndue Gjeci and chief of SHIR captain Zef Prendi. /s.sh/kled/mt/sh

    [12] SERBIAN POLICE LOOT POPULATION OF KUKES

    KUKES, AUGUST 25 (ATA) - By R Hoxha: Serbian policemen keep looting the Albanians who pass the border through the customs house of Morini, Kukes district, in Northern Albania.

    Eye witnesses said that on Sunday scores of Serbian policemen, who were waiting in ambush in the place called Sasha, 4 km from the border, looted all the travelers from Kukes, mainly small merchants who were going to Prizren by bus, and others who wanted to see their relatives.

    Another witness qualified the plundering of the commodities from traders and of souvenirs from visitors as an "amoral act of the Serbian regime."

    "In addition to this, who dares protest to his plundering he is beaten hard by Serbian policemen," said A.Xh., adding that "they take from us even the piece of bread we have taken for the travel."

    Nearly 600 people from Kukes, mainly small traders who sell and buy in Prizren, pass every day the customs house in Morin, which reopened on July 15 following the unrest in Albania. ssh/kei/xh/k

    [13] PM NANO AND IMF DELEGATION DISCUSS MEANS OF THEIR COOPERATION

    TIRANE, AUGUST 25 (ATA) - By Eva Allushi: The program of assistance, the means for the realisation of the cooperation between the Albanian Government and the IMF and the extension of the relations with international organizations were in the focus of the talks held on Monday between the Albanian Prime Minister, Fatos Nano and an IMF delegation.

    "The aim of the IMF program, related with the macro-economy, should be not only the emergent measures but also the realisation of a three-year-project, which will help integrate the Albanian economy into the system of the world economy," said Mr Nano.

    The IMF working group hailed the approval by the government of the law on the transparency for the collapsed pyramid investment schemes.

    The IMF representatives focused on special aspects of the fiscal policy, the consolidation of the structures of taxation and the customs houses, the keeping under control of the budgetary deficit and inflation, the application of correct monetary policies and the reformation of privatization og the banking system.

    The IMF high officials said that after the present emergent aid, IMF will implement a detailed three-year-program of partnership and cooperation with Albania.

    Nano explained the main lines of the objectives of the government program to recover the country's economy and cooperate with international financial organizations. kei/xh/k

    [14] VLORE POLICE DETAIN 13 KURDS

    VLORE, AUGUST 25 (ATA)- By H. Koci, The Vlore police detained 13 kurds this afternoon at the road block near the Mifol bridge (linking Fier with Vlore).

    The Kurds were going to Vlore to illegally cross into Italy through speedboat traffic, sources of Vlore district Police department told ATA.

    The same sources say that after checking the documents the Kurds will be sent back to Tirana where they have come from.

    The problem of the Kurds' illegal traffic from the Vlore shores to the Italian ones has been evident in Albania od late. a.ke/kei/lm/k

    [15] ALBA TV HAS PAID NO FINANCIAL OBLIGATION

    TIRANA, AUGUST 25 (ATA)-By Flora Nikolla,a The Alba TV Private station broadcasts have been interrupted because the Alba staff, installed in the International Centre of Culture, QNK, in Tirana, has paid no financial obligation to the QNK, and the Albanian state.

    If the debt is paid off, "Alba TV" will be present immediately on all screens," Director of QNK Paulin Shkjezi told the Albanian mass media today.

    Referring to the contract signed between the Albanian radio-television, Ministry of Culture and QNK, Shkjezi said that "the tv station should pay 18 per cent of the sum to this centre and 82 per cent to the Albanian state".

    Since March until now the leading officials of this tv station (Italian-Albanian joint venture), should have paid the amount of $ 34.490000.

    According to him, "although the Ministry of Culture, as a contracting party, has been requested several times to intervene, no response has been received".

    The Alba TV" station began its experimental broadcasts in January this year. kei/lm/k
