  • [01] ALBANIAN DEFENCE MINISTER MEETS WITH A GROUP OF PATRIOTS FROM KOSOVA

    TIRANA, MARCH 15 (ATA) - Today the Minister of Defence, Shaqir Vukaj met with a group of patriots from Kosva, who, in these critical moments and in the conditions of the state of emergency, support the Government of National Reconciliation, spokesman of Defence Ministry reports. Mr Vukaj told the Kosova patriots of the grave situation in Albania these days, the aspects of the present work of the government in order to establish at any cost the public order and peace, to protect and revive the army, to put into operation the state structures and to ensure tranquillity and stability in Albania.

    Representatives of the patriotic group of Kosova expressed their support for the Government of the National Reconciliation and offered concrete assistance to make possible the elimination of this great calamity, to bring to a normal state every structure of the Army, to establish peace and to ensure a normal life in Albania. "A tremor in Tirana," they said, "is a grave in Prishtine. It's now the time when genuine Albanians appear, and genuine Albanians are those who have only Albania as their homeland and not those who have a spare homeland."

    "In these critical moments," said Defence Minister Vukaj, "as patriots we must be united without any distinction of ideas, religion or regions, to vercome the situation and establisht peace, to protect the army and ensure the defence of Albania." ssh/xh/10

    [02] MEETING OF ALBANIAN DEFENCE MINISTER WITH U.S. MILITARY ATTACHE

    TIRANA, MARCH 15 (ATA) - In his today's meeting with the U.S. Military Attache in Tirana, Colonel Fox, which was held in a friendly spirit, the Albanian Defence Minister, Shaqir Vukaj, thanked him for the U.S. assistance and support in these difficult days of the state of emergency in Albania, for the Government of National Reconciliation and for Albania, spokesman of the Defence Ministry reports. Mr Vukaj confirmed this by saying that "the public opinion has welcomed the interview of the U.S. Ambassadress on the Albanian Television." Further on the Minister of Defence briefed the U.S. military attache of the present situation, of the work going on to restore peace through understanding and diloague, by avoiding as much as possible the violence and the use of arms.

    "In the mean time, along with the support by all the people for the Government of National Reconciliation," said Mr Vukaj, "work is going on also to restore tranquillity and public order, and to reorganize military units of the army. In these conditions, we would need an urgent support by the U.S. through emergent assistance, especially in the field of logistics." U.S. Military Attache stressed that the U.S. Embassy in Tirana was continuing its normal activity in Albania and assured Mr Vukaj of the U.S. support for the Government of National Reconciliation, for Albania.

    "Along the security of the U.S. staff in Albania," he said, "the U.S. is interested that Albania remain a democratic country, under the control of civil politicians and that peace and stability be restored as soon as possible. In these conditions can support and assistance be provided in all the fields, including that of defence." ssh/xh

    [03] 10 PEOPLE KILLED BY FIREARMS YESTERDAY IN TIRANA

    TIRANA, MARCH 15 (ATA) - Ten people lost their lives yesterday by an uncontrolled fire of arms. Deputy director of the Military Hospital in Tirana, Gezim Huqi, told ATA that during the past 24 hours, from 8 a.m. yesterday to 8 a.m. today, this hospital gave medical aid to 83 people wounded by armsfire, of whom 75 civilians and 8 military. Ten of them, 8 vicilians and 2 military, died. 21 nationals, after undergoing surgical operations, are now hospitalized but their life is out of danger.

    The rest of the wounded have left after receving the medical assistance.

    Quite another situation appears in Tirana today. According to Mr Huqi, from 8 a.m. up to noon today, 11 wounded people were taken to that hospital and four of them were hospitalized. The medical staff of the military hospital, especially that of the surgery ward, are working non-stop. xh
