The delegation was received by the two directors of the Durres-Gdansk shipyard.

The Polish director in the shipyard explained to Mr Kolodko that the cooperation there has made possible the employment of many Albanians with an average monthly salary of 150 dollars.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties discussed the extension of their activity in other fields too, such as tourism, energy, infrastructure and economy in general. kled/xh/

[02] POLISH DEPUTY PREMIER VISITS BERAT

The Polish Deputy Premier and Finance Minister, Prof. Grzegorz W. Kolodko, visited the museum city of Berat on Sunday.

In Berati's ancient castle, the Polish guest and the delegation he heads were received by the chairman of the district council, Novruz Kafazi.

The Polish delegation made its first visit to the well-known medieval iconographic museum of "Onufri", which preservers the creativeness of the Albanian masters of medieval painting and of later period.

The guests also visited other spaces of the castle and familiarised themselves with the social-economic development of the city and district.

In honour of the delegation, the Finance Minister, Ridvan Bode, gave a dinner at the tourist spot of the Castle. s.sh/kled/lm

[03] ITALIAN AMBASSADOR IN ALBANIA - HONORARY CITIZEN OF VLORA

In the ceremony held yesterday in Vlora, the Mayor Elham Sharra spoke of the contribution of Mr Foresti as one of the initiators of the operation Pelican in 1991 and his contribution to a number of projects in the city of Vlora.

Mr Sharra also spoke about the contribution of Mr Colavero and Conti for the continuous humanitarian support for the people of Vlora.

Mr Foresti said that "As a citizen of Vlora I will try to help its development in the future, to establish closer relations of this city with Europe." Soon, an Italian consulate will open in the city of Vlora. ssh/eva/xh/E

[04] GENERAL COUNCIL OF OMONIA ANALYSES LOCAL POLL TURNOUT

Regarding the results of these elections, the general chairman of OMONIA, Jorgo Labovitjadhi said that "they were not satisfactory but acceptable." He also declared that "we harvested what we had sown in the elections." The absence of the chairman of HRUP, Vasil Melo, in the meeting of the OMONIA General Council, his accusations towards OMONIA for the candidates who lost in the zones proposed by the latter and the absence for a long time of the two HRUP deputies in the Parliament were dealt upon under a rose light.

(The deputies of the HRUP and the socialist deputies continue to boycott the proceedings of the Albanian parliament elected on May 26, alleging irregularities in these elections). According to comments by Labovitjadhis at the end of the meeting, "there are no frictions between the HRUP and OMONIA".

However, despite the definition that "Omonia and the HRUP are inseparable ", the Greek minority press like "Zeri i OMONIAS" and "Llajko Vima", have begun to speak of fractions in the relations between Melo and the Greek minority organisation.

"The HRUP's inexistence also led to the inexistence of OMONIA", is reported to have been said in yesterday's meeting of the minority leaders, but chairman Labovitjadhi has said at a news conference that : "there are no problems with the HRUP".

Regarding the long absence of the two deputies of the HRUP in parliament, he said that the deputies "have been absent for health reasons".

The unsatisfactory result in the local elections is linked with the "absence of our people working abroad", said OMONIA's chief, who also blames for this loss "the brief period" between the elections, "that found the people unprepared". s.sh/pas/xh/lm/E

[05] SECOND STAGE OF POLIO VACCINATION STARTS IN ALBANIA

A meeting of the Health Ministry recently focused on a greater interest of a small part of the population which did not take the first vaccine, advising it to take the vaccine now and the second dose later.

The second stage of the polio immunisation starts today to end on November 17.

Like in the first stage, staffs are set up throughout the country consisting of specialists and epideomiologists from the Ministry of Health and the Institute of Public Health.

The campaign is a financial contribution and assistance of the European Union, the Italian Government, UNICEF and various international associations. ssh/eva/xh/E

[06] CEI TO HELP BRING MEMBER COUNTRIES CLOSER TO EU - Meksi

-The annual meeting of the Central European Initiative, CEI, at premiers' level, considered important the fact that all the member countries should cooperate in the economic and political aspects.

First, taking advantage of the fact that two of the CEI founding states are EU members, Austria and Italy, the CEI will serve as a mediator of the CEI states for cooperation and integration into the EU, although most of them are associated states or states which have trade agreements with the European Union.

Secondly, the summit aimed that these states had projects of common interest for their economic development, such as roads and energy problems. In my speech I stressed the indispensability of supporting projects including Motor-way 5 (North-South), Motor-way 8 (East-West).

ATA: Mr. Premier, one of the summit topics was the attitude towards rump Yugoslavia. What was the position of the Albanian delegation on this issue?

-This issue had been discussed earlier in working groups and certain states intervened to favour Yugoslavia by disregarding several general rules and by considering the FRY (Serbia and Montenegro) heir to the SFRY in order to accelerate procedures so that it directly adheres to CEI as one of the founding states.

The statement stressed that like the other states emerging from former Yugoslavia, it can apply and adhere to the CEI based on the rules in force, and this only after the approval of a troika of countries elected by the representative countries, which will consider when it is the proper time in accordance with the rules and procedures of adherence.

Both in the debate and in the news conference we insisted in a special amendment for the solution of the situation in Kosova. But since Slovakia did not agree because amendments are approved by consensus, we attracted the attention in the bilateral meetings for the explosive situation in Kosova. The Albanian Government is of the opinion that stability in the Balkans cannot be attained if there is no peace in Kosova too, and to reach this we proposed bilateral talks between legitimate leaders of the Albanians and the Serbian party.

ATA: What were the main issues you treated in the speech you held in the meeting?

Among the main points I dwelt upon in the meeting were the support for CEI, its activity and the great possibility that CEI has to serve as a connecting bridge for all the European Union member countries. We asked an all round support and we think we will have such a support by OSCE as well. We insisted in the observation of the Dayton Accord and stressed that there would be no stability only with the Dayton peace, stressing that the Kosova question, the Albanian question in general, should by all means be solved, and to attain this we proposed bilateral meetings. pas/lm/xh/sh/
