[07] SITUATION IN KOSOVA REMAINS COLONIAL - Zimerman

TIRANA, SEPT 28 (ATA)- The former U.S. ambassador to Yugoslavia, Warren Zimerman, told the "Voice of America" Thursday that the situation in Kosova has begun to improve with the achievement of the agreement on education, but in essence it remains colonial, as the Albanians are deprived of their basic human rights.

Zimerman said that "for as long as Serbia continues to oppress Albanians in Kosova, the outer wall of international sanctions against it should not be removed".

He also said that:"Now the main issue is that Serbia and the Kosova Albanians start dialogue. I would like that negotiations be carried out without preconditions, but one should bear in mind that the victims are the Kosova Albanians and the aggressors Milosevic and the Serb side".

Zimerman considers the Kosova issue a key problem because, according to him it "affects not only the Kosova two million people, but also Albania, and of course Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and maybe Greece and Turkey".

The rights of the Kosova people seem to be very important for the International Community to regard this as an international issue, Zimernam says at the end of his interview. sk/lm/sh/
