    KORCA, SEPTEMBER 1 (ATA) By B Fejzullai - Drink producing companies "Rilindja", "Ekstra" and "Leopard", of Korca city, have recently exhibited their products in the international fair of Kozan, Greece.

    Chairman of Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Korca, Baki Shehu, said that their products were seen with great interest by the Greek businessmen circles.

    The organisers had reserved to the Albanian pavilion a central place and prepared for it a special advertisement.

    During their stay, leaders of Korca chamber held talks with their Greek counterpart on the deepening of cooperation in the field of exchange of information, business, markets and advanced technologies. am/kled/fh/sh/

    [02] GREEK MUNICIPALITIES DELEGATION TALKS IN GJIROKASTRA

    GJIROKASTRA, SEPTEMBER 1 (ATA) By Sh Hajno A delegation of some Greek municipalities met yesterday with a delegation of Southern Albania municipalities.

    The Greek delegation was headed by Athens Mayor Dhimitris Avramopullos and the Albanian one by Gjirokastra Mayor Bashkim Fino.

    Fino said that the meeting was organised in the context of the program "Week of cleanness and qualitative improvement of Gjirokastra town" initiated by his municipality in collaboration with prime Consul of the Greek Consulate, Nicolas Kanellos.

    Prefect of Gjirokastra, Tepelena and Permeti Fatos Gjyrezi acquainted the Greek delegation with the organisation of local government after the establishment of democracy stressing that it is based on local autonomy, self governing and decentralisation.

    Mayor of Gjirokastra after making an exposition of historical and cultural development of the town thanked their readiness to collaborate in the field of environment and other fields discussed in the meeting.

    Mayors of Northern Greece towns and those of Southern Albania gave concrete proposals regarding the implementations of programs in different fields.

    Both parties agreed to set up a joint working group which will realise draft protocol of cooperation. Its concretisation would begin after being approved by respective governments.

    Second meting of these delegations was decided to be realised after a month in the Greek town of Arta, while the protocol will be signed in Athens within a short time. ssh/eva/fh/E

    [03] SOME 35000 STUDENTS TO SIT IN KOSOVA SCHOOLS

    TIRANA, SEPT 2 (ATA) - The Center of Information for Kosova said that today will sit 350000 students in 450 elementary and 66 secondary schools in Kosova.

    Some 21000 people will be engaged with them from whom 16720 regular teachers and 1310 part-time teachers and some 3000 workers of administration and technicians.

    President of Kosova Dr Ibrahim Rugova in a meeting held Friday with chairmen of Democratic League of Kosova talked on the opening of the new school year in Kosova.

    He spoke about the international position of Kosova which he valuated as very favourable for the Albanian school in Kosova.

    "Albanian school in Kosova, despite difficult conditions and systematic repression of the Serbian regime, managed to survive and kept high its national spirit and prepared generations after the Western style of education. We congretulate these boys and girls who continue studies, which are the foundations of every civilisation" said Rugova.

    Rugova also said that all efforts were taken for a successful opening of the school year. aca/kled/fh/E

    [04] ATHENS MAYOR AWARDED CITIZEN OF HONOR OF GJIROKASTRA

    GJIROKASTER, SEPT 2 (ATA) -By Sh. Hajno A ceremony was held Sunday to award Athens Mayor Dhimitris Avramopullos as "Citizen of honor" of Gjirokastra town in the municipality of this town.

    Members of a delegation of some Greek municipalities as well as chairmen of municipalities and districts of southern Albania attended the ceremony. Prefect of Gjirokastra Fatos Gjyrezi was also present in the ceremony.

    Mayor of the Gjirokastra municipality, Mr. Fino while giving this award to Mr. Avramopullos said: "Based on local government competencies, we decided to give this award to our Greek friend for the merits and his help in concertizing the program "The week for tidiness and improvement of life in Gjirokastra town". s.sh./eva/mt/fh/E

    [05] SERBIAN POLICE TAKE 66-YEARS OLD LADY HOSTAGE

    TIRANA, SEPT 2 (ATA) - The Serbian police took hostage, Saturday morning, a 66-years old woman from Peja, reports the Center of Information for Kosova.

    The Serbian police, who were hunting down Zenel and Qerim Kelmendi, raided their house in Peja and finding none of them took hostage their mother, Nurie, 66, and their brother Shkodran, 16.

    They are not yet set free. /a.ca/kled/mt/E.

    [06] ATHENS MAYOR VISITS SARANDA

    SARANDA, SEPT 2 (ATA) - By Sh Hajno Mayor of Athens municipality Dhimitris Avramopullos, accompanied by municipality mayors of Ioannina, Gumenica, Arta, Filatt and others, paid a visit Sunday to Saranda town (Southern Albania).

    He was received by Saranda Mayor Llambi Gjati, chairman of the Council of this district Dhimiter Stefo and others.
