  • [01] DP AND CDP DISCUSS ON THE STRUCTURE OF THE FUTURE GOVERNMENT

TIRANA, JULY 4 (ATA) - Prime Minister Aleksander Meksi and the DP chairman Tritan Shehu discussed Thursday, in the Palace of Congresses, with leaders of Christian Democratic Party (CDP) about the new government's structures in the context of meetings the DP is organising with Albanian political parties.

Shehu and the CDP leader Zef Bushati after the meeting said that it was a positive meeting but none of them gave details about a possible participation of the CDP in the future government.

"Coalitions seem to appear in the horizon" Shehu said to the journalists after the meeting, without mentioning any political force which can participate in the future government.

Bushati said "the CDP finds DP a natural ally" adding that "We are two member parties of the European Christian Democratic Union."

He said that his party has made proposals regarding the restructuring of the government and some of its governing bodies. He said he had also expressed his party's political stand on "How to further depoliticize governing bodies."

Shehu said that the CDP is a party which we have collaborated from the beginning with, and we would like to continue even in the future in different levels of the country's governing."

The democrat leader said that he found normal the Socialists invitation announced a day ago, adding: "I think their decision until now to stand out of the dialogue is negative."

"I will put forth our desire to see them participate in parliament, to take up their seats and develop the political activity within the Albanian parliament because otherwise they really risk their complete disappearance as a political force."

Shehu said that next week the new government will be presented to the parliament. "We have even before stressed that we are open for coalitions and they are approaching in the horizon."

The DP chairman also hailed the victory of the Russian president Boris Yeltsin. kled/fh/sh/

PRISTINA, JULY 4 (ATA)-By B.Jashari, The Pristina university protests against the imprisonment, arrest and mistreatment of this university's teachers and students.

The protest, addressed to diplomats of OSCE's three European countries who visited Pristina and to other international institutions, says that the Albanian teachers and students of the Pristina University are being mistreated by the Serb occupying regime.
