  • [01] COL. FILIC: THERE WAS NO POLICE ACTION AGAINST CIVILIANS

    Tanjug, 1998-09-30

The Spokesman of the Serbian Interior Ministry for Kosmet, Colonel Bozid ar Filic, said on Wednesday that members of the Ministry did not take any action against civilians in the village of Gornje Obrinje, near Glogova c, and denied reports by some western media and the Kosmet Albanian-langu age papers about the alleged police crime in this village.

Filic told a press conference that all police actions in Kosmet were sol ely aimed against terrorists.

Adding that the Interior Ministry had not received any reports that crim es had been committed in Gornje Obrinje and that they had learned about t his in the already-mentioned media, Filic said that the corresponding bod ies would investigate the entire case very quickely.

Speaking about the Serbian Parliament's decisions regarding the return o f weapons and amnesty for those who comply with this and are able to prov e that they did not commit crimes, Filic set out that weapons must be ret urned or sent to any one of the police stations, units, checkpoints and p atrols. Those who are afraid to be registered, can inform the authorities by telephone about how they want to hand over the firearms, or leave the m at a certain place to be picked up later by the police, Filic said.

Filic set out that in the region of Kosovo and Metohija, over the past 2 4 hours, there were no incidents. He confirmed that the units which parti cipated in the clashes with the terrorists, had withdrawn to their bases.

He said that a vehicle of the International Committee of the Red Cross w as blown up today by a anti-tank mine in the village of Likovac, near Don je Obrinje in Drenica. Two members of the Committee were seriously wounde d and two slightly.

Several days ago, a Serbian police vehicle was also blown up by a mine i n the same place and five police officers were killed. A little earlier, the same happened to a vehicle of the Canadian mission when one of the pa ssangers was injured.

Filic warned that this area had been mined by terrorists.
