    [03] INTENSE DIPLOMATIC TRAFFIC

Intense two-day diplomatic traffic is seen to be continuing with high-level officials meeting with their Turkish counterparts and Turkish officials preparing for talks in various Western capitals in the coming days.

Topping the list of officials visitors to Ankara is the State Secretary for the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, Siri Bjerke, who held talks with his Turkish Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Onur Oymen on Wednesday. NATO expansion was reportedly high on the agenda of the talks between Oymen and Bjerke.

The visit will focus on recent developments in crisis-stricken Albania and the two parties will exchange views on the Balkan situation in general.

Highlighting other high-level diplomatic exchanges to take place in the coming days, Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Omer Akbel said that Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Onur Oymen will travel to Warsaw, Poland for similar consultations which are expected in this case to concentrate on NATO expansion and that country's bid to join the allience.

Akbel also said that high-level talks with European Union term president Holland were expected to be held in Ankara this week while the Latvian foreign minister is expected in Ankara on April 29./all papers/

Deputy Chief od Staff General Cevik Bir, who arrived in Paris on Wednesday to attend the Western European Union's meeting of Chiefs of Staff, said Turkey's concerns regarding its lack of participation in WEU decision making mechanisms were fully comprehended by its partners at the military level.
