JAN. 21, 1998 DAY

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BELGRADE - The president of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (RS) Dragan Kalinic is undergoing treatment in Belgrade, because two days ago he had hard kidney attack. Dragan Kalinic's wife stated for SRNA that he "is in one of Belgrade's hospitals where he will remain until further notice and his return depends on the results of treatment". She did not exclude the possibility that Kalinic would attend the next session in Banjaluka, which was announced by RS president Biljana Plavsic for Saturday.

SARAJEVO - The joint currency for RS and B&H Federation should be presented at tonight's press-conference in the federal part of Sarajevo, scheduled for 6,30 pm - says the High Representative Spokeswoman Aisling Byrne . The bank note has been printed in Paris and is on its way to Sarajevo now, where it is being expected about 3,00 pm. "The High International Representative Carlos Westendorp thinks that introduction of the joint bill is in interest of all sides in B&H and that it should be brought to an end without postponements", stated Byrne at a press-conference in Sarajevo.

BANJALUKA - RS Socialist Party (SP) supports initiative for holding of a session of the National Assembly, or in "Bijeljina or in Banjaluka", but as soon as possible, and invites all parliamentary parties to actively take a part in its work. The spokesman of this organisation Igor Radojcic supported the Operational Work Plan of RS Government and said he expected peaceful transfer of documentation and establishing of the unique administration in the whole region of RS.

BANJALUKA - The President of Serbian Party of Krajina and Posavina (SSKiP) Predrag Lazarevic assessed in Banjaluka that RS has gained " a national Government which is going to operate for the benefit of the Serbian people", but this party criticises the new mandatory because he "asked for setting apart the Serbian Orthodox Church from the state". Lazerevic sees the new Prime Minister as " a man who is capable to handle current problems in RS", and assessed his programme as " acceptable".

PRIJEDOR - The president of the Municipal Board of Prijedor Serbian Patriotic Party (SPAS) Ranko Kaurin supported the new RS Government stressing its team work in the interest of the Serbian people and cooperation with the international community on the implementation of the Dayton Agreement.

BELGRADE - The former scientific associate of Belgrade Institute for International Policy Predrag Simic thinks that relationships between RS leadership and West representatives will be much better after election of the new RS Government. " It can be expected that now RS will be more often subject of positive actions than it has been before, at least when it is about American initiatives in this direction", emphasised Simic. In his opinion, " serious divisions within RS can be caused by Dodik's proposition that the capital of RS should be Banjaluka".

BRUSSELS - A Belgian journalist Michelle Colon in the book " Poker in former Yugoslavia" assesses that America and Germany after the collapse of the Soviet Union, by themselves or through NATO, began to expand toward the East, and the best way was to divide up Yugoslavia. Demonetisation of the Serbs was the necessary link on a chain of creating vassal states which are easy to control. Uniting of all Serbs in one state was not in accordance with that policy, as well as existence of former Yugoslavia. The author anticipates NATO will continue its expansion toward the East in the future, and B&H will certainly be their main springboard for that purpose.

SARAJEVO - UN spokesman in Sarajevo Alexander Ivanko forwarded a letter to the editor-in-chief of an Orthodox Radio "St. John" Dragoljub Stajcic in which he was emphasising that accusations of this Radio regarding the Hague Tribunal are "unfounded and one-sided" and that this court " is not an organ of court suing of the Serbian people only". " The Tribunal is not interested in ethnic origin of the accused but in crimes which they have, allegedly, done " - emphasises Ivanko.
