JAN. 6, 1998 DAY

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJA LUKA - On the occasion of the Day of Republic, January 9, and next Serbian Orthodox holidays, the president of Republika Srpska /RS/ and the supreme commander of armed forces Biljana Plavsic received in Banja Luka the high delegation of the officers of RS Army /VRS/ with the Chief of General Staff general mayor Pero Colic at its head. Congratulating the festivities, the president Plavsic wished "that VRS will keep RS such as the Serbian soldiers were fighting for and for which 18,000 Serbian heroes gave their lives, and international community, by its peace agreements, secured the state integrity and peace in these regions".

BANJA LUKA - The president of RS Biljana Plavsic gave a message that "about unity and survival there can not be any bargaining" and that the attempts of division of its territory "will be prevented by all means". Mrs. Plavsic in an interview for the Banja Luka daily "Glas Srpski" /The Voice of Serbs/ expressed the hope that "in the second part of the Inaugural session of National Assembly /NA/ of RS will be elected the president, vice-president and secretary general" of new Serbian Parliament. "The only salvation for us is to stick to the Dayton Agreement, because we exactly know what has to happen, first of all because the commitments from that agreement we can not avoid in no way" -thinks Mrs. Plavsic.

CETINJE - His Holy Highness metropolitan crnogorskoprimorski /of Montenegro- coast/, zetsko-brdski and skenderijski Mr. Amfilohije in the Christmas epistle to Orthodox believers of Montenegro is pointing out at the opportunity "for brotherly conciliation and mutual respect" and calls them to "stretch hands one to another and forgive everything by Christ's Birth". "Christmas birth, brothers, represent the watershed of the human history, that is why the Christmas is simultaneously deep shaking of the history of the world and man and its immense measure. And we are always newly rejoicing the Christmas".

BELGRADE - In the region of Srebrenica suffered more Serbs than Moslems - claims for the "Dnevni Telegraf" /Daily Telegraph/ the member of the State Commission for POWs exchange and missing persons of RS Milan Ivancevic. According to him, in that region until now was found 846 bodies mainly Moslem soldiers, for which nobody can exactly say when they were killed, before, during or after coming of the Serbian Army into this city. "On the other hand, we have evidence that in this region, before Serbian army came, was killed more than 1,000 Serbs - soldiers and civilians" - said Ivancevic to the Belgrade's paper.

BELGRADE - After signing the Dayton Agreement out of 26,000 Serbs who lived in Sarajevo under Moslem-Croatian governance, into FR Yugoslavia and third countries emigrated 8,500. This was said for "Dnevni Telegraf" by Goran Kapor the president of Executive board of the Democratic Initiative in Sarajevo, adding that the remaining 17,500 Serbs who now live in Sarajevo could be said that they are "in the phase of leaving".

BANJA LUKA - The vice-presidents of Serbian National Union Ostoja Knezevic and Socialistic Party of RS Dragutin Ilic and president of the Party of Independent Social-Democrats Milorad Dodik gave in Banja Luka the full support to the concept of the new Government of RS offered by mandator Mladen Ivanic. "The delegates in republican parliament from our party will firmly support Ivanic's concept of the Government of national unity" - said Dodik at the joint press conference. He sharply criticised the representatives of the Serbian democratic party /SDS/ and Serbian radical party because of the stance that they have to give new mandator and rejected the claims that in RS "only SDS and radicals are patriotic parties".

SARAJEVO - The general director of the Serbian Press Agency /SRNA/ Branislav Ilic rejected, in the letters sent to French chief of diplomacy Hubert Vedrine and High Representative for B&H Carlos Westendorp the accusations which about SRNA presented Mrs. Marie-France Formi, the president of the Collective Sarthoise for peace in the former Yugoslavia. Rejecting with indignation all claims, Ilic reminds that SRNA was founded on April 7, 1992 and that "objective historical, legal and political analyses will show when the war REALLY started in B&H and WHO initiated it, as well as its character".

BELGRADE - The academic Ljubomir Tadic assessed that Albanian students are misused and that they are loosing from the sight what His Holly Highness Serbian patriarch Mr. Pavle told them in the letter from January 3 - that the difference between the regime and state must be made. "They identify the regime with the state of Serbia and do not recognise that state. Non- recognising the state is something that no any regime can allow" - said Tadic for SRNA on the occasion of the response of the Independent Union of the Albanian students on the letter of patriarch Pavle in which beside the condemnation of police they are requesting for the condemnation of the "systematic inhuman violance of the Serbian regime".
