NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The OSCE is expected to accelerate the official announcement of the local electoral results in order to soon install the municipal authorities, this was concluded at the meeting of the president of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (RS) Dragan Kalinic and the president and members of the Republic Electoral Commission. At the meeting they discussed the implementation of a part of the Belgrade agreement pertaining to the up-coming parliamentarian and presidential elections in RS. They expressed their regret over a technical failures which prevented larger number of eligible voters in RS and Yugoslavia from balloting.

SARAJEVO - The Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) won 11, Serbian Radical Party (SRS) nine, Coalition for Unitary B-H got seven, and Socialist Party for RS (SP for RS)S got four seats in Kalinovik municipal assembly. In Pale, the SDS got 26, SRS 19, and Coalition for B-H five seats in the municipal bodies. In Srpsko Trnovo, the SDS got 15, and the Coalition for B-H got 11 out of total 26 seats.

BANJALUKA - The "Autumn '97" joint tactical training of the RS Army (VRS) units under VRS First Corps command was held today at the military training site "Manjaca", near Banjaluka. RS president Biljana Plavsic expressed her pleasure with the organisation of the raining, and emphasised that such trainings were needed not for war, but for peace keeping purposes. RS prime minister, Gojko Klickovic, said that the VRS professional standard should be promoted and its life and working conditions improved.

SARAJEVO - The co-chairman of the Council of Ministers of B- H, Boro Bosic, talked in Pale with Malaysian ambassador in Sarajevo Mohot Ise on possibilities of political, economic and cultural cooperation between Malaysia and RS and the Federation of B-H. the Malaysian delegation confirmed that recent visit of the Council co-chairmen to Malaysia resulted in a successful basis for the initialling of all aspects of cooperation.

SARAJEVO - The RS vice-premier Velibor Ostojic, stated that SFOR by seizing transmission towers and hindering the broadcast of the Serb Radio-TV (SRT) Sarajevo Studio showed that SFOR was not committed to the Dayton agreement, but in stead some new agreements. "The Dayton agreement is not mentioned any more, but some additional papers, as those from Sintra, which again are honoured partially, selectively and from case to case", Ostojic stated for the "Slobodno" tribune organsied by the SRT Studio Sarajevo.

TREBINJE - Advisor of the RS minister of interior, Aleskandar Krulj, opposed to the decision of the illegal minister of interior, Mirko Pavic, to appoint him head of Trebinje CJB, and said it was brought without his knowledge. The SDS municipal Board for Trebinje announced that together with other patriotic parties it would do everything to prevent such attempts. "The announced shifts are not aimed at professional changes, nor are they in the function of a fight against grey economy, but their real aim is the change of police conception which, according to the international community, should result in a more cooperative policy", says the SDS announcement. The SRS says it will use all means available to protect the legally elected RS institutions, and added that "The SRS has many objections to the function of the internal affairs service, but since the municipal elections were held and parliamentarian elections announced, the SRS for Trebinje believes that it is not a proper time for replacement of top-officers in these bodies".

TREBINJE - An announcement from the MUP loyal to the RS president on replacements in the CJB Trebinje was a pure lie aimed at dividing and destruction of RS, stated deputy in the RS National Assembly from Trebinje, Bozidar Vucurevic, and said that "the people of Herzegovina will resist to all elements trying to destroy RS". The president of the Veterans Organisation in Trebinje, Svetozar Acimovic, said that none had the right to play with the RS fate. "Those who have never spent even a single sleepless night for RS now appear as saviours of this people", said Acimovic.

DERVENTA - Two police check points were set up in Tromedja, between Derventa and Prnjavor - one towards Prnjavor, controlled by police forces loyal to president Plavsic - and the other, towards Derventa, controlled by legal MUP forces. SFOR troops are positioned in between the check points to deter eventual clashes.

SARAJEVO - Attorney of Sretko Damjanovic, who was sentenced by Muslim judiciary to death penalty for alleged war crimes against and genocide, Ratko Maric, stated that the goal of his client was not only a repeal of death penalty, but the process renewal and determination of guilt. "The Human Rights Chamber practically accepted all reasons why the death penalty should not be carried out, so this was more than favourable decision", said Maric, commenting the Chamber's order not to carry out death penalty.

BRCKO - The RS identity cards were taken by additional 57 Muslims in Omerbegovaca, thus total 236 Muslims in Omerbegovaca and Brod got RS documents out of 1,618 persons who fulfil criteria for acquiring RS documents, says the CJB in Brcko.

BRCKO - Lawyers from the Serb, Croat and Muslim parts of municipality of Brcko met to discuss discrimination referred to in European Convention on Human Rights, article 14. A member of the International Group for Human Rights, Sevima Sali, also took part at the meeting. The next meeting is planned for November.

BANJALUKA - RS presidential advisor for economic issues, Rajko Tomas, met in Banjaluka with the head of the delegation of the UN Development Programme, Eric de Mul, and agreed implementation of a new infrastructure development programme for RS, worth over $ 10 million. The project implementation should start in January, 1998, and project funds will be used for building of residential units and crediting of production and job creation.

BANJALUKA - the composition of new municipal authorities in Banjaluka was decided to be left to two major political parties the SP for RS and the Serb Party of the Krajina and Posavina.

BANJALUKA - The representatives of the Social-Liberal Party of RS talked in Banjaluka with French ambassador to Sarajevo, Yves Gaudel, on the results of the local elections and ways of their implementation, stated Party's vice-president Rade Duajkovic.
