NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - The president of Republika Srpska (RS), Biljana Plavsic, expressed her pleasure in Banjaluka with the Agreement reached on overcoming of the political crisis in the RS, pointing out that the efforts for finding of a best solution for the Serbian people within the Dayton Agreement are dealt here with. 'We had a very long talks with the Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic about the future of RS and I believe that we came to an agreement that we should take care about finding of a best solution for the Serbian people within the Dayton Agreement', stated Plavsic for journalists after she returned from Belgrade. Mrs Plavsic stressed that 'President Milosevic's endeavours in reaching of a truce were very constructive', mentioning that the Serbian president agreed fully that the crisis is to be overcome democratically, i.e. by elections.

BRCKO - The RS minister for economic relations with abroad, Stevan Stevic, stated that the agreement reached in Belgrade on overcoming of the crisis in RS is a step forward in finding of both a political and an entire solution for the problems arose in the state. 'The agreement makes it possible for the trust placed in the president from RS in the Presidency of B&H, Momcilo Krajisnik and the RS president Biljana Plavsic to be confirmed at the elections, or for new persons to be elected, thereby we are entering a more calm phase of the political and economic life', assessed Stevic.

PRIJEDOR - A deputy in the RS National Assembly, Aleksandar Bereta assessed in Prijedor the agreement reached by the RS president, Biljana Plavsic, and the president from RS in the Presidency of B&H, Momcilo Krajisnik, as a victory of sense. 'The Serb harmony makes me happy. I believe that the signatories will comply with the agreement and I want to congratulate them because their good intentions prevailed in the interest of the unity of the Serbian people', emphasised Bereta, adding that such unity will contribute to the stabilisation of political events in RS and will provide RS with the future.

BANJALUKA - The leader of the Socialist Party of RS (SP), Zeljko Radisic, welcomed in Banjaluka the agreement reached by the RS top officials and the Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic on holding of presidential and parliamentary elections, assessing that it [agreement] represents a democratic way out of the political crisis. The SP leader presented a stance at a press conference that a decisive moment has come for the unification of all the national and patriotic forces in the defence of RS in which the interests of the RS people will be above all of the individual and partial interests.

BRCKO - The head of the Brcko branch [Municipal Board] of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS), Mladen Bosic, stated that even though the agreement was reached under pressure within the RS state leadership, it overcame the threatening divisions in the state and announced the stabilisation of peace. The leader of the Brcko branch of the Socialist Party (SP) of RS, Petar Djokic, assessed the agreement reached between the RS president Biljana Plavsic and the president from RS in the Presidency of B&H, Momcilo Krajisnik, as a big relief for the political life and the whole of RS people.

BANJALUKA - The chief of the State Security of Serbia, Jovica Stanisic, expressed his belief in Banjaluka that the political crisis in RS will be overcome by the Belgrade agreement, warning that it is also necessary to overcome the problems in functioning of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. 'I deeply believe in this what we achieved in Banjaluka and Belgrade, because the victims of conflicts and misunderstandings are always greater than the victims of agreements', stated Stanisic for journalists at an airport in Banjaluka.

BELGRADE - The People's Radical Party hailed the agreement signed in Belgrade by the RS president Biljana Plavsic and the president from RS in the Presidency of B&H, Momcilo Krajisnik, on normalisation of relations in the RS.

NOVI SAD - The chief of the Juznobacki [South-Backa] district and member of the Pokrajina branch [board] of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), Obrad Milosevic, assessed that the agreement signed by the RS president Biljana Plavsic and the president from RS in the Presidency of B&H, Momcilo Krajisnik, is a crucial moment for preserving of the RS. 'The division of RS was avoided by the signing of this agreement reached through mediating of the Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic, thereby all the preconditions for the implementation of the Dayton agreement are created, said Milosevic.

SARAJEVO - The RS vice-premier Dragan Kijac denied the information published by the Belgrade 'Dnevni telegraf' [Daily Telegraph] on that the RS minister of internal affairs, Slavko Paleksic, resigned because he did not approve the latest actions carried out by Serb police.

SARAJEVO - The RS minister of health and social welfare, Mirko Sosic, warned in Pale the deputy chief of the OSCE Mission in Sokolac, Joanis Sakiridis, of an unequal distribution of the medical aid of international organisations to Republika Srpska in regard to the Federation of B&H. 'We drew a conclusion that there is an unequal approach in the distribution of medicines, sanitary material and equipment by the EU towards RS, while for the benefit of the FB&H, stated Sosic, assessing the talks as very informative and useful.

BIJELJINA - Some 700,000 persons or 80% of the total number of residents with the right to participate in the privatisation process are registered at some 250 centres for privatisation in RS as of June 18, to September 20, stated the head of the Bijeljina Office for privatisation and development of RS, Aleksa Milojevic.

BANJALUKA - The Banjaluka branch [Municipal Board] of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) is not completely satisfied with the results of the local elections, at which an undemocratic campaign of certain parties had a considerable influence, says a communique issued by the party after the session held on September 23 and 24. Further, it says that certain parties, with the help of media and taking advantage of an extremely difficult political situation, accused the SDS without an argument of being the only culprit for all the negative occurrences in RS.
