NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The Supreme Council of Defence of Republika Srpska /RS/ concluded at the ordinary session in Pale that the security-political situation is unfavourable, and requested from all state organs and citizens maximal endeavours regarding strengthening defence capacity and cult of defence of RS. The unavoidable issue of modernisation of army, which is underway, was considered too, and also solving and the way of solving the issue of faster and more efficacious providing the resources for financing the professionalism and building the infrastructure for defence needs. It was decided that May 12 will be the day of RS Army, and also was brought the programme of its celebrating.

SARAJEVO - The RS government adopted the Provision on service in the common affairs of Republican organs, by which was formed the service of common organs and bodies of RS for doing expert, common, technical, auxiliary and other common jobs for needs of organs and bodies of RS. The government gave the consent on the Rules of procedure of the ministries and administrative organisations. The review of unfulfilled conclusions of government was delayed for next session, and the decision on setting up and nominating the members of Council for monitoring the programme orientation and editorial policy of the public media which founder is the Government.

SARAJEVO - On the Jahorina mountain was held the 6th session of the Assembly of Red Cross of RS, at which agenda is the financial report and the report on work of Red Cross in 1996, and adopting the programme of work and financial plan for 1997.

ZVORNIK - In the past four years Serbs had lead exclusively the defensive war and it is the real evil because we are described by the international community as aggressors and genocidal people - deems Stevo Pasalic, the geographer, author of the recently issued publication "The suffering of Serbs and Serbian settlements in the former B&H /from 1992 until 1995/. He stressed that in the publication, the evidence was given that Serbs were not criminals and that they were the victims of the atrocities, detention camps, bordellos and other ways of humiliating.

VUKOVAR - The Independent Serbian Democratic Party /SDSS/ will win in the majority of municipalities of Eastern Slavonia and become that way the unavoidable factor in political and social life of Croatia - stated in Vukovar the president of the Programme Council of this party Milorad Pupovac. "The tomorrow's elections represent the further negotiations about the status of Serbs, their institutions, but also the better basis for equality and survival in Croatia" - assessed Mr. Pupovac.

BANJA LUKA - The Republican Institute for Health Care during the war registered more than 17,940 persons infected by communicable diseases, but the real panic was instigated by the data that "the plague of the 20th century" - AIDS, arrived in RS - stated in Banja Luka the head for epidemiology of RS MD Stanimir Stamenkovic, while stating that there is 11 infected, and that nine persons infected by HIV died.
