SRNA REVIEW OF DAILY NEWS, Sept. 11, 1996Srpska Republica News Agency (SRNA) Directory - Previous Article - Next ArticleFrom: Mirjana Petrovic <almirja@cotton.vislab.olemiss.edu>NOVI GRAD - The vicepresident and acting president of Re- publika Srpska, Biljana Plavsic, stated at the SDS rally in Novi Grad that the Serbian Democratic Party wants an unitary Serbian state, and that their vote at the upcoming elections will decide of the fate of all the Serbs. Biljana Plavsic reminded all those present at the meeting of the huge sacrifices given for the Serbianhood, and called residents to bear all those sacrifices in their minds while voting on September 14. In thanking to resi dents of Novi Grad for warm welcome, the president of the RS National Assmelby, Momcilo Krajisnik, appealed the Serbs to stay united, reiterating the importance of September 14 elections. "They want to alienate us and Serbia, but there is no Serbian who would say no to unification with our motherland Serbia", stated the president of the Serb Parliament. PRNJAVOR - The acting president of the SDS Aleksa Buha, stated in Prnjavor that a short time was left before the verify ing the Serbian state, for which time the voters should, by voting for the SDS, show what do they want. "We are offering the Serb national state in contrast to various colourful offers coming from other contestants for the leadership in RS", stated Buha at a SDS meeting in Prnjavor in front of 10,000 assembled citizens. The RS candidate for house of representatives of the joint parliament for B-H assembly, Slobodan Bijelic, stated that Serb representatives will not give up the Serb national inter ests, and added that the slogans of the SDS are "Serbianhood, democracy, freedom" and "Unity, state and freedom". SARAJEVO - The RS government proposed the arbitration over the interentity boundary line in the Brcko area to start after documents from the Dayton agreement are revealed, which documents clearly identify the subject of the dispute. The conclusion from the Government's session that a redefining the subject of dispute would represent a breach of the Dayton agreement - which is some thing in which the RS does not want to be involved - will be forwarded to the RS Assembly for review. The RS prime minister Gojko Klickovic informed ministers that international represen tatives were told earlier that RS would fulfil all its obliga tions from the Dayton agreement, but that "every letter outside the Daytona agreement would cause a new war". BEOGRAD - The RS representative in the threemember Arbitra- tion Commission for the interentity boundary line in the Brcko area, Vitomir Popovic, stated that this Commission "does not possess Dayton maps which show that the city of Brcko is the disputable part of territory". "According to the Dayton agree ment, the subject of the arbitration is not the city of Brcko, as presented by the Muslims, but the boundary line dividing two entities in the area of Brcko", stated Popovic in an interview for "Dnevni Telegraf". Popovic confirmed that the high interna tional representative Carl Bildt told him that there were no maps, of which the UN secretarygeneral Boutros Boutros-Ghali was informed. BANJALUKA - Spokesman of the OSCE Regional Centre in Banja luka, Thomas Milerina, announced in Banjaluka that a press centre would be opened in Banjaluka to offer services to domestic and foreign journalists on the day of voting. He specified that regular press conferences would be held at 9:00, 12:30, 15:30, 18:15, and 21:15, to inform journalists about the voting process in the western RS, from Brcko to Novi Grad. VISEGRAD - The president of the Municipal Electoral Commis sion in Visegrad, Milanka Tanackovic, confirmed everything in this city was ready for the first multiparty postwar elections. She stated for SRNA that the Commission got ballots, and that it gave instructions to presidents and members of 25 electoral boards for their work on the election day. The Commission expects about 23,000 others will vote in Visegrad. SARAJEVO - Secretary of the Municipal Electoral Commission for Pale, Nevenka Ristovic, confirmed for SRNA that OSCE deliv ered the electoral material which is being distributed to 35 polling stations in the municipality. Since the OSCE rules re stricted number of ballots to 800 per polling place, Ristovic warned that additional ballots would be needed for places with expected high number of voters. NOVI SAD - The chief of RS Office in Novi Sad, Risto Trivun, stated that he expected "sure victory of nationally oriented political parties with the SDS on the lead". According to him, the SDS as a party which stuck close to the Serbian people during four years of war, would win 60 per cent of votes. "When in question candidates for the Union B-H, I think that Momcilo Krajisnik will face a real triumph", stated the chief of the RS Office in Novi Sad. NOVI SAD - According to municipal official for refugees from Southern Backa, 11.680 refugees will come to RS to vote. "These estimations are realistic, even though the number of voters is for 3,000 smaller than expected", says the same source, not giving the reasons of the reduced number of voters. BANJALUKA - The UN International Police spokesman Alan Roberts, announced that 1,400 policemen from the whole world would closely cooperate with local police in RS and the Federa tion. At a press conference in Banjaluka, he confirmed that the task was control and warning at any impediment to voting press, and that a large number of UN officials would be involved in monitoring of the voting, added Roberts. BANJALUKA - The IFOR Sector Southwest spokesman, William Syms, announced in Banjaluka that the first delivery of ballots would arrive to the polling place in the Jovana Jovnanovica Street, i.e. in Banjaluka's high school building. At a press conference he stated that the distribution of ballots would be continued in all municipalities in RS, and that the same will be carried out in the Federation. BEOGRAD - The candidate of the Democratic Patriotic Block for RS president, Predrag Radic, announced at the upcoming elections that he expected the victory of national parties. "The elections could easy end like those in Mostar, when the city was split between the Croat and Muslim parts. The same will happen in the MuslimCroat Federation, and the RS will follow the suit", stated Radic in an interview for "Nedeljni Telegraf". AMSTERDAM - The departure of refugees for voting in RS and the CroatMuslim Federation, will not proceed as the Provisional Electoral Commission wished to be, which means a smaller number of refugees will decide to come to polling places in the entity with domination of other ethnic group, writes today's Dutch press. "OSCE is not pleased with the final results of the agree ment between RS and the B-H Federation, according to which the return of refugees is conditioned upon a new series of limits. STOCKHOLM - The Swedish media are neglecting Serb perishing in the former B-H, there are no reports on discovering Serb mass graves, like the one in Mrkonjic Grad, while a large space in the Swede press is given articles about Muslim perishing, warns Nikola Janjic, president of the "Serbian People Voice" in Swe den. In a letter of protest sent to the influential paper "Helsingbors Dagblad", Janjic mentions examples of media reports on "bodies discovered in the vicinity of Srebrenica", even though there is no evidence thus far that those are Muslim bodies, and at the same time the horrible pictures from MrkonjicGrad are not mentioned in the majority of Swedish informative houses. WASHINGTON - NATO will stay in RS and the Federation of B-H for at least for two next years, writes the New York Times, referring to sources close to North Atlantic Alliance. The "peace agreement allowed a too short time for the civilian representa tives of the international community to reunite Bosnia", say U.S. unnamed NATO officials. SRNA's correspondent reports that several U.S. highranking officials yesterday admitted to the Congress that the results of the elections "probably will force the U.S.A. and their allies to prolong their mission in the former Yugosla via". ROME - The elections in the Dayton Bosnia will reaffirm the ethnic division, verified in Dayton, concludes the Italian paper Corriere De la Sera in an article titled "Serbs, Croats and Muslims divided like before the war".
