[01] FAVORABLE CONDITIONS FOR A STABLE COOPERATION BETWEEN FRY AND FINLANDThe cordial and open talks Serbian President Milosevic had with Finnish Prime Minister Ms. Taryu Halonnen - who came to Yugoslavia with her assistants for an official visit - stressed the positive development of the bilateral relations, and the good prospective for a continued and stable cooperation. The talks also indicated that the policy of peace and equitable cooperation among countries and nations, constitutes the most dependable foundation for their comprehensive enhancement and incorporation, as well as an incentive for the integration process in Europe and the world over. FR Yugoslavia is actively contributing to the realization of these objectives, endorsing above all the consolidation of the political situation in the Balkan region, convinced that the future of the states and nations has to be built on the grounds of full equality. This is why FRY expects its constant and persistent involvement to become integral part of the international efforts, which includes its equal treatment and participation in all international organizations and forums.Federal Prime Minister Dr. Radoje Kontic and Federal Foreign Minister Milan Milutinovic also had talks with the Finnish Premier. In those meetings prime importance was given to the possibilities and ways of improving bilateral relations. The Yugoslav side indicated expectations that Finland - a country that played a constructive role in the Balkan peace process - will endorse the reintegration of FRY into the international institutions. The Finnish Prime Minister said that her Government highly appreciates the role and the contribution of FRY in reaching and preserving peace in the region. (Politika, June 25, 1996)[04] CONSULATES INSTEAD OF BUREAUSYugoslav and Croatian expert groups comprising foreign ministry and customs officials agreed yesterday in Zagreb that the Yugoslav Bureau in Zagreb and the Croatian Office in Belgrade shall assume consular duties as well. In accordance with the latest agreement, Yugoslav citizens that plan to go to Croatia will no longer have to go to the Croatian embassies in the neighboring countries to obtain the documents needed to enter Croatia. (Borba, June 25, 1996) [05] LETTER OF THE ZAGREB ORTHODOX COMMUNITY TO CARDINAL KUHARICThe recent statement made by the Archbishop of Zagreb at the 16 plenary session of the Chairmen of the Episcopal Conferences held in Mariacell, caused negative reactions of the remaining Serbs in Croatia. In fact, cardinal Kuharic reaffirmed some falsities and made offensive statements regarding the Serbs in Croatia. Justifying the current ethnic cleansing policy directed against the Serbs, cardinal Kuharic remarked that the exodus of the Serbs after the aggression of the Croatian Army was caused by the fact that "...the Serbs fled from Croatia because they did not want it." Speaking on behalf of the Serbian Orthodox community in Zagreb, Rev. Milenko Popovic addressed an open letter to cardinal Kuharic, containing the following basic message "Serbs fled from Croatia because it did not want them." "I should like to remind you that an army of 200.000 soldiers full of hatred invaded Krayina, and I wonder if any reasonable man would wait for such liberators." - reads rev. Popovic's letter. He also expressed amazement for the fact that cardinal Kuharic "...has no information about the destruction of Orthodox churches in the recent war" because he personally sent him the book "Spiritual Genocide 1993- 94", containing detailed data for all ten Orthodox eparchies in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Numerous Orthodox churches have been razed to the ground: in the village of Stupovaca near Kutina, in the village of Tresnjevka near Bjelovar, two near Grubisino Polje, as well as those in Nova Gradiska, Vinkovci, and Gospic (back in 1991); the one in Slavonski Brod was demolished after the war stopped, and three of the four seats of Orthodox bishops have been blown up or burned, and the church in Veliki Zdenci recently disappeared. The protection of Orthodox temples after the aggression is nothing but a propaganda move. Allegedly the churches are preserve, but no one admits that they have all been desecrated and robbed and that the settlements around them have been burned. (Politika, June 25, 1996)[06] JASENOVAC MUST BE PROTECTEDThe participants of the International Resistance Federation Congress, which ended yesterday in Vienna, endorsed the coherent implementation of the Dayton Agreement and proposed the equal treatment of the two internationally recognized entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina: the Republic of Srpska and the Moslem-Croatian Federation. The congress delegates dedicated particular attention to issues regarding European cooperation, suppression of neo-Nazism and revanchism, and elimination of negative tendencies undermining the relations between states. With a resolution on the international protection of the Jasenovac concentration camp - drafted by the Yugoslav Resistance Association (SUBNOR), the Congress raised a protest against the intentions of the Croatian regime to bury together the victims of the WW II genocide -Serbs, Jews and Romany - and their assassins, thus desecrating the graves of the martyrs of Jasenovac.
