[01] FRY IS MAKING EFFORTS FOR THE REALIZATION OF THE PEACE AGREEMENTS

(Switzerland) that Yugoslavia will continue its maximal efforts for the realization of the peace agreements for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Srem-Baranja Region. "We expect all sides and the international community to assume the same attitude." - said the Yugoslav Premier taking part in the plenary session of the World Economic Forum dealing with the future of the Balkan region. Yugoslavia is determined to promote neighborly and comprehensive cooperation with all Balkan countries, the normalization of the relations with former Yugoslav republics being a strategic and economic priority for the stability of the region. Dr. Kontic reaffirmed that peace has always been and still is the primary state and national interest for us and that the Yugoslav delegation gave a major contribution to the signing of the Dayton Agreement. The Federal Premier informed the participants about the effects of the international sanctions against FR Yugoslavia, specifying that even though no war operations took place in Yugoslav territory, the country directly lost 50 billion dollars and suffered indirect losses for 150 billion dollars. (Politika, February 7, 1996)

[02] KONTIC TALKED WITH ANNAN, GENTZ AND VIDENOV

Secretary General for former Yugoslavia (who is taking part in the work of the World Economic Forum in Davos) Prime Minister Kontic indicated the danger of Croatia making an attempt to forcibly solve the question of the Srem-Baranja Region. Commenting the problem of Cape Prevlaka, Mr. Kontic remarked that Croatia renounced to the Dayton protocol on tripartite exchange of territories, which is why the mutual recognition of FRY and Croatia still has not taken place. In view of this fact, the Yugoslav Prime Minister stressed the need for a complete implementation of the Dayton Agreement. In the meeting with Hungarian President - Mr. Arpad Gentz, Dr. Kontic expressed concern for the situation in Sarajevo and the attitude of the Moslem authorities towards the local Serbs. He underscored that FR Yugoslavia firmly believes that the Serbs should stay in Sarajevo and that the international community should provide guarantees for their personal safety and the security of their property. Both sides agreed that the relations between Hungary and Yugoslavia should be enhanced comprehensively. In Davos, the Yugoslav Prime Minister also met with his Bulgarian colleague - Mr. Zhan Videnov. The bilateral cooperation between the two countries was quite good even during the sanctions, ant it is in the mutual interest to continue along this path - agreed Mr. Kontic and Mr. Videnov. (Politika, February 7, 1996)

[03] EU ON THE NORMALIZATION OF RELATIONS WITH FRY

the Ministerial Council - and the only condition for the normalization of the relations with FR Yugoslavia is the mutual recognition between Belgrade and Skopje - said the European Commission spokesman in Brussels. The same EU official remarked that allegations about the normalization of relations with FRY being postponed due to pressures from the side are totally unfounded. The European Community will recognize FR Yugoslavia as one of the successors, leaving the new countries in former Yugoslavia to freely define and settle the demands. (Vecernje Novosti, February 7, 1996)

[04] NEIGHBORLY COOPERATION

Mr. Radoje Djukic - Serbian Minister for Private Entrepreneurship met yesterday with a delegation of Hungarian entrepreneurs headed by Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Crafts - Mr. Tibor Szabo. It has been agreed that the implementation of joint projects in food processing and wood processing industry, construction works and industrial vehicles should be initiated. The international conference entitled "Yugoslavia and Hungary at the Threshold of 21st Century - a Century of Neighborly Relations" started today in Belgrade. The venue has been organized by the Institute for International Politics and Economy and the International Scientific Forum "Danube - a River of Cooperation" from Budapest. The conference is based on the joint opinion that good relations between the two countries constitute an important factor for the development of regional relations in central and south-eastern Europe. (Borba, February 7, 1996)

[05] RETURN INTO THE WHO

visited the World Health Organization seat in Copenhagen. The prime objective of the visit was to present the humanitarian situation in Yugoslavia where there are still 760.000 refugees, and to reinstate the cooperation with the WHO Regional Bureau. Upon returning from Holland, Dr. Todorovic revealed that it has been agreed that the funds donated for humanitarian purposes by Yugoslav citizens, will be directly transferred to the Yugoslav Red Cross. Aid of the UNICEF Medical Supply Center in medical supplies, medicines and food at favorable prices has also been promised. In all the meetings that the Yugoslav delegation had, the need to readmit Yugoslavia into the World Health Organization has been stressed. Underscoring that Yugoslavia was a WHO member since it was founded in 1948, Dr. Joe Aswala - Director of the WHO Regional Bureau said: "Yugoslavia needs WHO, but the World Health Organization also needs Yugoslavia as its member." (Politika, February 7, 1996)

[06] MAJOR ECONOMIC GROWTH

been achieved, higher than the usual seasonal increment. At the same time, along with the introduction of "Program 2", the monetary mass has been increased - as part of the measures promoted by the Central Bank. These conclusions are part of the survey published by MAP - the magazine authored by the Institute of Economic Sciences. Now, the most important task is to revive the production without inducing inflation, because this is the only way to ensure a healthy growth of national economy. (Politika, February 7, 1996)

[07] CONTACTS WITH BOSNIAN FEDERATION INTERRUPTED

contacts with officials of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina until further notice and accused the Moslem government in Sarajevo of breaching the Dayton Agreement. The Bosnian Serb government also decided that no Serbian representatives are allowed to go to the Moslem part of Sarajevo. Stressing that IFOR representatives and the authorities of the Moslem-Croatian Federation ignored the RS objections to the incorrect attitude of the Moslem authorities, the latest communiqu issued by the Government of the Republic of Srpska underscores that the recent arrest of Serb Army officers is the most drastic example of such infringements of the peace agreement. The RS Government expressed hope that the international community and IFOR high officials will react adequately and warn the Moslem side. (Politika, February 7, 1996)

[08] THE SERBIAN COMMUNITY IN CROATIA EXISTS NO MORE

the heading of the article published today by the Paris daily Le Mond. A highly documented analysis indicates that that "... the Franjo Tudjman regime does not want a multi-cultural society" and that Croatia became "ethnically cleansed" practically overnight. In one of its rare objective articles on the events in former Yugoslavia, Le Mond quotes the analysis made by its correspondent in Zagreb about the brutality of Croatian militarists towards the Serbian population. The reporter indicates that Serbs "can no longer partake in the government" and that "all property left by the Serbs that fled from Krajina are under state control". The same source reveals that the Croatian Parliament is discussing a project for the reconstruction of Krajina, stressing that this is actually "...an invitation for the Croats to settle the land the Serbs fled from". This is confirmed by the fact that 15.000 Croats have already entered Serbian homes after the "Operation Storm". Le Mond concludes that Croatia is now an ethnically pure state, where the Serbs no longer have the right to live, and that the Croatian people are beginning to realize that "...the Serbian problem is no longer the basic problem in the country, but rather the lack and disrespect of democracy". (Borba, February 7, 1996)

[09] NEW CRIMES IN KRAJINA

been found dead in her home in the village of Ljubovic near Gracac. The investigation revealed that the 58-year old woman was shot. Another woman - Milica Olujic (aged 85), was found dead - also killed by a fire-arm. The old woman was the last and only inhabitant of the village of Bilisani near Obrovac.
