[01] Romanian Government's priorities
"The executive fulfilled its obligations and it is expected that the second
round of loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is to be given
without problems", said the minister for relations with the Parliament,
Bogdan Niculescu Duvaz, in a RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI (28 July, 7:13)
interview. Later on, after the Law which will allow the Government the give
ordinancies during the parliamentary hollidays will be promulgated, the
Executive will work on some standard decisions. Mr Niculescu Duvaz said
that the credits will be mostly alloted for economy's restructuring,
especially for the agricultural and industrial sectors and infrastructures.
The minister announced that the Labour Ministry is working on new salary

[02] A statement of Mr Traian Basescu, Romanian transport minister
Quoting sources from the Transport Ministry, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI (28
July, 13:50) informed that seven ships owned by UZINEEXPORTIMPORT, 12 ships
owned by NAVROM and 12 ships owned by ROMLINE are sequestred in different
ports. The sums requested to allow the ships to live are 6 million dollars
for UZINEEXPORTIMPORT, 5.9 million dollars for NAVROM and 7.89 million
dollars for ROMLINE. On Monday, the Transport Minister, Traian Basescu,
said that he will ask a financial help from the Governemnt to solve the

[03] A developing process
The process of abolishing the unlucrative companies will continue according
to the commitements Romania made to the International Monetary Fund (IMF),
said on Monday the president of State Property Fund (FPS), Sorin Dimitriu,
quoted by ROMPRES. He said that from 20 zootechnical comercial companies,
the total number of such companies in April 1997, 15 were abolished, three
of them were privatized and two are in the process of judicial abolition -
RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI (28 July, 16:00) reports. Of the 10 companies
which were to be administratively abolished, only PETROMIDIA Navodari and
Darmanesti are to privatized, the rest being in different stages of

[04] Talks between prime-minister Victor Ciorbea and the IMF delegation
Romanian prime-minister, Victor Ciorbea, had talks at the Victoria Palace
with IMF's delegation of experts, led by Poul Thomsen, the Chief Negociator
for Romania - RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALIATATI (28 July, 16:00) reports.
According to a fax received from the Government, the talks were also
attended by the Finance Minister, the Reform Minister, the Industry and
Commerce Minister, the Labour Minister, the Justice Minister, the president
of FPS, state secretaries from the Defence Ministry. The discussions
focused on monetary and fiscal aspects, as well as structural reform. It
was agreed that the talks will continue this week, after the Government
will analize the proposals to rectify the state budget for 1997. "We had
very cooperative talks with the Government which included all the problems -
I have nothing to say. So, you must wait until the end of this week, when
I'll have some definitely information to give you", Mr.Thomsen said. RADOR,

[05] Press conference of Mrs Karen Fogg, Head of the European Commission in
Romania
"The time has come for the Romanians to struggle the essence and not the
form the problems", said Mrs Fogg, the Head of the European Commission for
Romania during the press conference which took place on Monday at the
headquarters of the delegation, quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI (28
July, 16:00 and 19:20). The aim of the conference was the continuation of
the debate on "Agenda 2,000", the European Commission file regarding EU
expansion, published by the European Commission on July, the 16th, which
includes the Commission's opinion about the progress made by Romania in the
process of preparing the integration. The first priority should be the
complying of the European Accord on Romania's integration in EU. RADOR,

Weather in Romania continues to be rainy. Heavy rains are forecast
especially in south-eastern regions of the country. Temperatures will range
