[01] Floods in western Romania
A few counties in western Romania are affected by floods caused by massive
rainfalls. About 50 households and more than 500 hectares of crops were
flooded in county Arad. The rainfalls have also flooded 5 kilometres of
county roads. The abundent rainfalls of the past two days have also
affected county Bihor, were eight bridges were totally or partially
destroyed. Here too, county roads were flooded as well as crops. No victims

[02] The declaration of Mircea Ionescu- Quintus, president of Liberal
Party, after coming back from Italy
Mircea Ionescu-Quintus, President of the Liberal Party (LP), was in Rome
for a three days visit. Coming back from Rome he declared to RODIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI (July 27, 19:00h): "I had economical, political and
institutional meetings, that meams I had meetings with a part of the
fundamental institutions of Italy and we succeeded in meeting with the main
political forces in Italy , as well gonvernmental as belonging to the
opposition especially meetings with the forces from opposition. Mircea
Ionescu-Quintus also declared that the meetings took place" under a sign of
an perfect understanding and a perfect political friendship". Regarding the
leaders of poltical parties in Italy with which he had meetings Mr Quintus
said " they are willing to ahead all their attention and all their
possibilities in order to support Romania in all the actions led, for the
time being, Knowing that there are some dificulties concerning the reform
and also cocerning what we have proposed to do. I think we succeeded to
create that kind of mood so that Romania should be helped in all future
actions and be supported in all our steps regarding economical and
political recovery". RADOR
[03] Official inscription in more languages are not a problem in county
Satu Mare
There is one bilingual inscription at the entrace of the Townhall, in town
Satu Mare. The name of institution is written both in Romanian and
Hungarian languages. This inscription was applied in the beginning of this
month ordered by prefect Rudolf Ridi, who has a German origin and he also
is a member of the Hungarian Democratic Union from Romania comments BBC
(July 27, 14:00h). The application of Order 22 was not done yet at the
Townhall,the County Council or in the other institutions. In town Carei,
where there are 55% Hungarians, 2,3% Germans and rest are Romanians, mayor
Eugen Covaci decided to discuss during the local county meeting on Tuesday,
the slates'inscritioning to be in three languages both at the entrance end
at the exit of the town. Mayor of county Carei declared that "his
assignment is to put one more tribilingual slate only on the Townhall
facade. A lot of villages in the county where 50% are Swabians there are
tribilingual slates in Romanian, Hungarian and German, for few years
because people from German origin speak Hungarian language,too. As a
conclusion, the bilingual slates appear in the villages connected with the
Order 22, without creating tentions. RADOR
[04] President of Public Ownership Fund, Sorin Dimitriu, had talks with the
delegates of International Monetary Fund
The chief negociator for Romania, Poul Thomsen, has on Monday another round
of talks with the prime minister, Victor Ciorbea. After this , Poul Thomsen
is going to take a decision regarding the granting of the second portion of
the loan, which is about 430 milion dollars(USD) echeloned trmestrially.
The amount of money is not big, but its granting is important for being a
sign of credibility given to the external markets. The IMF experts have
proposed themselves to pay a grater attention to the reform programme. " I
had no reproches concerning the POF's activity" declared Sorin Dimitriu
quoting MrThomsen. He also declared that"we did explain that POF does not
finance anything regarding the reorganization and the financial priorties
are achieved based on Government resolutions.There is an appreciation made
by mister Thomson and which, of course, advantages us too, namely that the
stratagems of structural adjustment, exactly what POF does, are more
difficult to achieve than the monetary and financial stratagems. Poul
Thomsen also said that POF achieved more than was expeted by experts in

[05] The missions of Romanian soldiers in Bosnia
In locality Zenica, in Bosnia, there are more Romanian soldiers and a
major, George Mihalcea, offered details about the mission to RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI (July 27, 10:30h). He declared that the main aim of the 200
genies belonging to SFOR is to build up roads and bridges and a
humanitarian objective of an great importance was the building of a road in
a mountain village, Plahovic. RADOR
