[01] Floods' victims
12 people died and 20 were wounded in the flood caused by the Barcau river,
in the North-West of Romania, on Sunday. Due to torrential rains, the river
Barcau partially floded the town of Marghita and three villages in Bihor
county. The situation is stationary, meteorologists say, and resque teams
have the situation under control. Prime minister Victor Ciorbea ordered
that a government team should go to the place to coordinate operations and

[02] Miners' protests
The miners in the Jiu Valley, the biggest coal basin in Romania, continued
their strike. A general strike is expected to be called on Monday. The
miners demand a 45 % increase in their wages, bonuses and more subsidies
for Jining. The government delegation that was in the Jiu Valley on
Saturday failed to come to an agreement with the miners' leaders. The
executive however showed its intention to continue nagociations with the
strikers in order to settle the work dispute. RRI-RADOR, June 16
[03] Romanian hone minister on a visit to the US
The Romanian home minister Gavril Dejeu has started an official visit to
the US tulll June 23-rd following an invitation of the Southern Police
Institute of the Louisville University, state of Kentucky. Mr Dejeu will
also attend the opening session of a course on democratic management in the
police in which 16 Romanian officers take part as well. The Romanian home
minister will meet high-ranking officials in the institutions that fight

[04] Romanian foreign minister is visiting Israel
The Romanian and Israeli foreign ministers, Adrian Severin and David Levy
have signed an accord on double taxation relief and on setting up a J
commission of economic, agricultural and scientific cooperation. After
meeting David Levy, Mr Severin expressed Romania's support for the Israeli-
Palestinian peace process and called on both sides to restrain from
violemce. The Romanian foreign minister is on a three days visit to Israel
following an invitation of his Israeli counterpart. RRI-RADOR, June 16
[05] A Romanian military delegation is visiting Portugal
A Romanian military delegation headed by defence minister Victor Babiuc has
started an official visit to Portugal til June 18-th. Mr Babiuc will have
talks with his couterpart Antonio Vitorino on NATO's expansion and
bilateral military cooperation. Babiuc will also ba received by the
president of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio. RRI-RADOR, June 16
[06] Weather in Romania
Weather in Romania will be hot and sunny in most of the country. Some
showers could be forecast in the mountain regions. Temperatures will range
from 12-15 centigrades in the morning to 30-32 centigrades at noon. RADOR,
