[02] IMF Continue to Analyse tge Stage of the Reform Programme in Romania
Bucharest - The IMF chief negociator Paul Thomsen and members of the
executive continue to analyse in Bucharest the stage of the reform
programme in Romania. After a first assessement, Paul Thomsen has indicated
that the progrsmme is carried out in a fair manner, while the monetary and
fiscal policies are "running smoothly". Such analyses are made every two
mounth; the tranches of the 430 million dollar loan, given by the IMF in
April to support the Romanian restructuring programme, depend on the
results of these analyses. The other day, the World Bank approved a 550
million dollar loan for the same purpose. In Wednesday's session, the
Romanian government made a new step in the enforcement of the reform,
decidoing to improve the foreign investment regime. An emmergency ordinance
provides for the regulation and liberalization of the capital market, the
promotion and guarantee ofdirect foreign investments, as well as free
competition. We also inform you that a Frame agreement of financial
cooperation between the European Investment Bank and Romania was signed in
Bucharest on Thursday, this being an important stage in backing Bucharest's
