[01] End in Bucharest of the third Crans Montana Forum
Appreciated by the president of the Crans Montana Forum Jean-Paul Carteron
as a success, the conference "Romania at Work" occasioned concrete debates
on Romanian reform, restructuring and privatization in fields such as power
plants, minig, agriculture, civil engineering, banking and social
protection. In a message addressed to participants at the closure of the
debates, president Emil Consttantinescu appreciated this edition of the
Crans Montana Forum as a moment of reference for the new type of relations
between Romania and Western business circles. The message stresses that it
is essential at this stage for Romania's economic and diplomatic strategies
to be known as well as possible, as a real collaboration with Western Norld
requires the adoption of a common language. The message conveys an
invitation to all those who plan to invest a certain amount of capital to
come to Romania, highlighting the fact that Romanian reality is fully
compatible with such an action. We recall that the first meeting organized
by the Crans Montana Forum outside Switzerland was hosted by Athens in 1992
and dealt with "Europe and the Mediteranean in the New World Order", while
in 1994 the conference was organized in Bucharest and occasioned a meeting
between Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and the then Israeli foreign
minister Shimon Peres. The 1994 conference in Bucharest focussed on the
Yugoslav connflict and the Partnership for Peace.RRI-RADOR, March 24

[03] American support for Romania's NATO membership
'The leader of the Republican majority in the American Senate, Trent Lott,
addressed an open letter to president Bill Clinton about NATO's enlargement
Eastwards", Romanian ambassador in Washington Mircea Geoana stated. In an
interview to aour radio station, ambassador Geoana has estimated that the
mention of Romania's name in the letter is proof that both in the
Administration and in the American Senate our country is ever better heard.
Mr Geoana said that the chairman of the parliamentary procedures Committee,
republican Jerry Solomon, introduced in the American Congress resolution no
53 stating that Romania must be taken into consideration for the first wave
of NATO's enlargement.RRI-RADOR, March 24
