[01] President Emil Constantinescu met a delegation of the Executive
Committee of the International Prosecutors' Association
The Romanian president, Emil Constantinescu, met with a delegation of the
Executive Committee of the International Prosecutors' Association. Mr
Constantinescu briefed the magistrates on the main guidelines of the anti-
corruption offensive launched bN the Bucharest authorities. The delegation
also included prosecutors from Ireland, USA, the Russian Federation, Canada,
Japan, the Netherlands, China, Germany, Hungary, Great Britain and
Thailand. The delegation came to Bucharest on the occasion of the
proceedings of the Executive Committee of the International Prosecutors'

[02] Talks between the Romanian foreign minister, Adrian Severin and the
British minister, sir Nicholas Bonsor
Boosting the excellent developing relations between Romania and Great
Britain is covered by the talks in Bucharest between Romanian foreign
minister, Adrian Severin and sir Nicholas Bonsor, minister of state at the
Foreign Office. Mr Severin presented Romania's foreign policy strategy in
this zone, both in terms of a security flank being created through
partnerships with Hungary and Poland and Ukraine's policy of reapprochement
to Europe, stabilization in the Balkans and the connection with tNe
Caucasus and the Caspian Sea area. He said possibilities both in the
economic and political field are opening up for British investments in
Romania. Sir Nicholas Bonsor is heading an important British economic
mission, made up of representatives of over 60 prestigious companies. RRI-

[03] International financial aid for Romania
The European Union finance ministers meeting in Bruxelles have decided to
grant Romania a financial aid of 70 million ECU to continue the application
of structural reforms. They welcolmed Romania's government's economic
stability program and said they would back it up. Reporting the newsitem,
DPA agency mentions that the European Union had decided in 1994 to grant an
125 million ECU worth aid to Romania. The first tranche of 55 millions ECU

[04] Conference of the Phare Programme in Bucharest
On Monday, Bucharest hosted the meeting of the Group for all-country
coordination of the Phare Programme, Nhose chairmanship is held by Romania.
Attending the meeting were Alexandru Herlea, the Romanian minister for
European integration, representatives of the European Commission and
national coordinators of the Phare Programme from countries benefitting by
Phare assistance. The meeting was focused on the new Phare orientations,
the adoption of the 1997 operational Programme and the preparation for the
next meeting in Bucharest, due in June this year. RRI-RADOR, March 18
[05] The Romanian prime-minister underlines the importance of Romania's
integration in the European Union
On Monday, Bucharest venued the proceedings of the first meeting of
Interministerial Committee for European Integration after the elections.
The participants approached issues pertaining to the definition of a new
sectorial strategy at ministerial level and to the calendar of the
harmonization of Romania's legislation with that of the European Union.
They also debated the topical character of the answers to the Nuestionnaire
forwarded by the European Union, answers wich will represent the bassis of
the European Commission endorsement. At the end of the proceedings, the
Romanian prime-minister, Victor Ciorbea, underlined the importance granted
by him to the integration in the European Union, considering that the
accession to Europe will represent the corrolary of tomorrow's wealfare.

[06] Hungary supports Romania's integration in NATO
At the joint news conference of the Czech prime-minister, Vaclav Klaus, who
is on a visit to Budapest, and his Hungarian counterpart, Gyula Horn,
Romania'a accesion to NATO was also approached. Mr. Horn said that Hungary
is interested for Romania and Slovakia to join NATO, maybe in the first
wave. REUTERS reports that last week, when Romanian premier, Victor Ciorbea,
visited Budapest, Gyula Horn expressed the most firm backing so far for
Romania's accesion to NATO and the European Union. The Czech prime-minister,
Vaclav Klaus, said in hNs turn that the Czech Republic will take Romania's
request into consideration to join NATO in the first wave. RRI- RADOR,

[07] Weather in Romania
Weather will be rather cool in most regions. Some snowfalls are expected in
northern and eastern parts of the country. The temperatures will range
between -4 and +6 degrees Celsius. In Bucharest, where this morning there
were -4 degrees, weather will be mostly fine, but cool, with a high of 6
