[01] POLITICAL ATMOSPHERE FOR LYNCHCommenting on the statement of the leader of VMRO DPMNE, Ljupcho Georgievski said at the last press conference of this party, that the speech given by the Minister of foreign relations after the assassination of the President, actually called for the lynching of his political opponents. The Minister gave a statement to A1 TV in the interview on October 16 and 17 saying: "I clearly stated in the Parliament that the assassins may only be found through investigation. However, it is also clear that aside from the assassins, we must mention those who created the political atmosphere calling for murders, blood, etc. The creators of such a political atmosphere are responsible, and we should talk about this responsibility publicly", emphasized Minister Crvenkovski.
[02] THE EU DEMANDS WRITTEN STATEMENT FROM GREECEMacedonian media report that the European Foreign Commissioner, Hans van den Broek has stated that the European Commission expects a written statement from the Greek ambassador that the Greek government has withdrawn the embargo against Macedonia. He stressed that the EU plans to financially help Macedonia and other countries in the region within the framework of the PHARE program with over 150 million ECU in its annual budget. The Union plans to obtain the finances from each member separately.
[03] USAID BRINGS NEW INITIATIVESThe chief executive of the Agency for International Development of the USA, Tom Dine, arrived in the Republic of Macedonia from Washington. The aim of his visit is to study the current experiences in the cooperation between this agency and Macedonia, as well as the future program direction in the modernization of the administration. The priority sectors and aims to which the finances are to be directed are determined.
[04] A SESSION OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL OF MACEDONIAThe Security Council of the Republic of Macedonia yesterday held a session for the political and security situation in the Republic. It is evaluated as stable, and the institutional system is functioning normally. The Council was informed about the investigation of the recent assassination attempt on the President.
[05] REALIZATION OF THE PRACTICAL MEASURES CONTINUES IN ATHENSA group of experts from corporations and agencies from Macedonia went to Athens yesterday to meet their Greek colleagues. In the next two days the experts will work on the issues regarding transport and communication, PTT and custom issues, the green cards, and some other questions, A1 TV reported.
[06] MEASURES FOR COOPERATION WITH MACEDONIAAccording to Macedonian media, the Greek government prepares a large package of measures for economic relations with Macedonia which is to be adopted at the end of this week at the meeting of the representatives of the two Ministries of economy. 'Makfaks' says that the Greek government initially will stimulate private businessmen, but it will refrain from direct financial help. The package is coordinated by the vice secretary in the Ministry of economy, Yanis Aftopulos, who will consider opening an office in Skopje.
[07] OPENING PROCEDURES IN PROGRESSDuring the first three days after the adoption of the Memorandum for the practical measures of the Interim Accord, about 100 automobiles from Macedonia entered Greece, Macedonian radio reports. Compared to what was expected, it is still a small number of Macedonian citizens who enter Greece. The reason is probably the uncertainty as to whether they would pass the border without any problems. Also, it is confirmed in Salonica that the exchange of goods will be documented with a double name so as the goods and passengers from Macedonia will enter Greece under 'Republic of Macedonia' and the Greek authorities will mark the documents with the reference FYROM. Businessmen from Salonica express pleasure of the embargo withdrawal. Trade and industrial corporations from Greece are ready to establish cooperation through concrete programs. Simultaneously, the Greek government announced that it will remove vetoes for credits of EU to Macedonia and expressed readiness for financial aid to support Greek investments in Macedonia, Macedonian radio reports.
[08] GERMAN EXPERTS IN MACEDONIADuring the next four days, Mr. Rackl, a high- ranking German government official for the coordination of the German- Macedonian economy , and a team of German experts will be present in the country for bilateral talks on future German- Macedonian projects. Since Germany has focused a major part of its projects on the construction and improvement of water supply systems in the region of Kavadarci and Negotino, Mr. Rackl will visit the water supply systems there and the water reservoir Ilovica.
[09] MACEDONIAN DELEGATION AT THE CEREMONIAL SESSION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF UNMacedonian delegation headed by the president of Macedonian Parliament, Stojan Andov, with the minister of foreign relations Stevo Crvenkovski will participate at the ceremonial session of the General Assembly of the UN in the recognition of 50 years of the founding of the world organization. The Parliament president Andov will talk on the first day of the session which will be held from October 22 to 24 in New York.
[10] CEREMONIAL ACADEMY IN OCCURRENCE OF THE ANNIVERSARY OF UNAt the national theater in Skopje last night, a ceremonial academy was held. The president of the Macedonian Parliament, Stojan Andov, talked about the importance of the world organization. President Andov, after discussion of its role and the development of the UN, expressed his wish for the successful integration of the Republic of Macedonia into international institutions and progressive processes in the world. He also reviewed the assassination attempt on President Gligorov and pointed out the will of the country to continue its political course. At the end, president Andov expressed the hope that UN in its own interest, and in the interest of peace, stability and the right of self-determination will change the temporal reference and will accept the constitutional name of the country.
[11] MACEDONIA IS A STABLE COUNTRY, TRONI SAYSThe President of the Macedonian Parliament, Stojan Andov, received the ambassador of Italy, Augustino Troni at his request yesterday. Ambassador Troni expressed his pleasure that despite the shock of the assassination attempt on Gligorov, Macedonia bravely continues the peace policy and its institutions continue their work. That means that Macedonia is a stable country and attracts the attention of the Italian people and government, Troni said.
[12] PREVENTION OF JUVENILE CRIMEOn invitation of four ministries ( the Ministry of justice, the Ministry of labor and social policy, the Ministry of internal and Ministry of foreign affairs), Professor Gert Kapelare from the Gent University in Belgium and a councilor on the issues of juvenile crime in the UN sector for prevention of crime and the criminal law in Vienna and Interpol, is currently visiting Macedonia. The purpose of his visit is to inform on the situation and the problems of juvenile crime in Macedonia, as well as to help in the improvement of the laws on this issue.
[13] TWO NEW OFFICES IN SKOPJE ARE TO BE OPENED SOONAccording to the agreement between the Ministry of health and the regional sector for Europe of the World Health Organization, it is expected that this organization will soon open its office in Macedonia. Another office to be opened is the representative of the so- called International Project Union as planned by the World Bank for reforms in the health system in Macedonia. The office will be a center for the reform programs, and it will help with the distribution of information on reforms to politicians, experts and the public.
[14] SECOND ACADEMIC YEAR IN "TETOVO UNIVERSITY"In the Tetovo village Mala Rechica, as authorities of the so-called "Albanian University" announced, the second academic year has started. On the occasion, as 'Makpres' reports, several 'professors' were present: the 'Rector' Fadil Sulejmani, Miljaim Fejziu, Sefedin Hajruni, Rami Tuda, Ismail Odza and Masar Hodra as well as over 100 students. Neither of the political representatives of Albanians were present at the event. In his speech, Fadil Sulejmani stressed that there are 1254 students and about 100 professors. There are also 17 classrooms and a library with a large number of books. " The Tetovo University is an object of reality of the democratic public and we will deal with every difficulty that may occur"- said Sulejmani.
[15] THE STATE OF HEALTH OF PRESIDENT GLIGOROV IS GOODYesterday's bulletin for the state of health of President Gligorov announced that the president is treated at the Surgery Clinic, the sector for intensive care in the Clinic for Anesthesiology, Reanimatology and intensive treatment. President's situation is good and the treatment continues.
[16] PRESS CONFERENCE IN THE MINISTRY OF ECONOMYOn the press conference held yesterday in the Ministry of economy the project for registration of offices and the project for reconstruction of foreign trade have been presented. The first project will lower the expenses of registration and will shorten the time for the procedure. It will also standardize the documents which will ease the work in the 36 local communities, said the Minister Risto Ivanov at the press conference. The new strategy in the organization of foreign trade cooperation will be based on four principals. First of all, a new Ministry for trade will be formed and later, the laws for the contingents of export and import will be adopted. The government has already adopted the laws for foreign trade cooperation and the law for taxes which will be another segment in the new strategy. However, the work on the legal subject is not yet concentrated into one Ministry. There were several opinions on that issue, so a period of one week is left for negotiations which is the most important part of the new strategy.
[17] NEW MILK PRODUCTION LINEThe milk industry in Bitola put into operation a new completely automated line for production of sterilized milk. The new line is unique in the state and is worth more than 4,5 million DM. Its capacity is about 100 000 liters per day. The line is based on the highest world standards, and it will also produce several types of juices.
[18] THE PRICE OF BREAD IN KICHEVO-LOWEREDThe company "Zito Karaorman" from Kichevo, the biggest supplier of bread in the region, lowered its price by 20 percent. The cause of the reduction was the inability to reach an agreement on the price with private firms which compete with low prices.
[19] NEW ENROLLMENT POLICY OF ST. CYRIL AND METHODIUS UNIVERSITYYesterday's session of the Senate of the University St. Cyril and Methodius introduced two new projects on the finance policy. The criteria for adjusting the price of educational services will be the new project for the finance of the enrollment policy. As the Rector Kiprijanova said, the next 15 days the policy will be sent to faculties and institutes which will present their own suggestions. The new project for enrollment will be presented to the future students at the end of the year.
[20] BLOOD DONATION EXPANDSThe council for blood donation in the Macedonian red cross announced that in the period between January and September 1995, blood donation is about 10 % better than the same period last year. During the summertime the results are better by 23% compared to the same period last year which is a result of giving gifts to donators. (end)mils news October 18 1995 |
