At the quiet coffeeshops in Nissiros, one can taste the famous "soumada", a local soft-drink mad of bitter almond. Several coffeeshops, such as the cafe-bar "Cactus", serve breakfast. At Mandraki, one should visit the taverna "Nissiros" and "Elikiomeni" and the restaurant "Karavas", where they can taste the local traditional dishes, the local cheese varieties of "Kopanisti" and "Sakouliasti", the traditional chick-pea called "pithia" and the famous "mousakas". One can go to the opposite islet of Giali by fishing boats leaving from Mandraki, where they can taste fresh fish and try the local dish of "Kakavia", with ouzo or retsina, at the picturesque tavernas.
