AGIA MARINA
Agia Marina, situated next to the settlement of Platanos, is a part of the island's capital. At the mouth of the port stands the Roman fortress Prouzi, or Brouzi, built on the site of an ancient city. The town has an interesting archaeological collection, and, of similar interest, are the lovely churches of Christ Saviour and the Holy Cross. In recent years, it has become a significant tourist resort and is buzzing with activity during the summer months.
ALINDA
Alinda is 5 km from the island's capital. It is a picture-postcard village with traditional houses, among which are the first hotel on the island and the Castle of Belenis. The hotel was built in 1923 and now functions as a municipal guest house. The Castle of Belenis, an old mansion, houses the town library, the museum, and the radio station of Leros. In its courtyard, significant cultural events are held throughout the year.
From Alinda, one can visit the cemetery of the British soldiers of World War II and various churches and monasteries of the town and its neighbouring areas. Of particular note are the monasteries of Agios Sofronios, Agii Saranda, Agios Isidoros in Kokali as well as the church of Panagia Gourlomata.
LAKI
Laki, the harbour of the island of Leros, is 4 km from the capital. It was built predominantly by the Italians. It is a modern town with wide streets, squares, grand buildings, parks, and abundant greenery which enchants its visitor. Pains are being taken to make known its multitude of monuments. The port was used as a naval base for the Italians during World War II and a memorial stands there for the sailors of the sunk destroyer "Queen Olga". Among the noteworthy town sights are the old clock of the municipal market and the churches of Agios Ioannis Theologos and Agios Nikolaos. Also worth visiting are the chapels of Agios Zacharias and Agios Spyridonas at the mouth of the bay.
PANDELI
Pandeli, one of the three settlements that comprise the island's capital, is situated at the rear of Apitiki hill. Its inhabitants are fishermen and its tavernas serve fresh seafood. It attracts many visitors during the summer months.
PLATANOS
Platanos is one of three settlements which comprise the island's capital. Being the oldest capital it is the island's historical and cultural center. Its beautiful houses with lovely gardens are perched on a hill and look out to the sea. Its small streets, quaint alleyways with decorated courtyards, and the breathtaking view to the sea create a lovely picture that attracts many visitors. On Apitiki hill, there is a Venetian castle which served as an observation post for the Italians. Inside, there is the exquisite monastery of Panagia Kira. In the city, one should visit the churches of Agia Paraskevi, the island's former cathedral, that of Christ Saviour in the area of the same name, and that of Panagia Gourlomata at Drymonas, on the outskirts of the town. Also worth seeing are the mansions of Antonellos and that of Kandioglou, the library, and the Historical Archives.
