MEGISTI OR KASTELORIZO
Kastelorizo, the island's capital, lies on its eastern side in the mouth of a quiet bay. It is a pretty town with picturesque old mansions along the waterfront. Among the mansions St Constantine and St Helen's church stand out. Its 250 inhabitants make a living from fishing and emigrants's remittances from Australia and Egypt.
On the hilltop stand the Castle of the Knights with the small Archaeological and Folk Art Collection, as well as St Dimitris & St Nicholas's church. Next to them stands a 4th-5th century tomb carved on a rock with a front which is in the Dorian order with a rectangular burial chamber.
From Kastelorizo, one can visit Palaiokastro, 2 km away, with ruins of the acropolis and the Blue Cave with its beautiful colourings.
