DRIOPIS

Photo Driopis is a large mainland village 8 km from Kithnos. It owes its name to the Driopes, the island's first settlers. The locals also call it Horio. Its houses contain many cycladic architectural elements with their cobbled courtyards and their tiled roofs. Among them, the church of Agios Minas, with its wonderful wood-carved screen and valuable icons stands out. From Driopis, one can visit the monastery of Panagia Kanala, and the cave Katafiki with its beautiful stalactites and unique natural beauty. Also, near Driopis, excavations have brought to light ruins of the ancient town of Kithnos.

LOUTRA

Photo The seaside settlement of Loutra lies 4.5 km north-east of Hora. In recent years, it has had a considerable touristic growth which attracts more and more holiday makers. It is well known for its two medicinal springs, Kakavos and Agii Anargiri. It also has pump room facilities for those who suffer from heart problems, rheumatism and arthritis. The first pump room facilities were constructed during the Turkish domination and were known by the name Hamam Andassi. They were repaired in 1795 by the monk Mavrogenis, Reverend father of Vlahia. From Loutra, one can visit the medieval Castle of Oria, or "Kefalokastro", where the ruins of a medieval city and notable churches also stand.
