In the last few years Greece has experienced unfavorable publicity by the international mass media. Emphasis--A Journal on Hellenic Issues does not aim to single-handedly bring about an immediate shift in attitude and perceptions. Rather, the journal seeks to enhance the public's understanding of Greece's political, social, economic, and cultural history and identity and to introduce modern Greek thinking. Emphasis also aims to address the information needs of Greek decision-makers while simultaneously providing a forum for the exchange of ideas, research results, and comparative studies on issues vital to Greece.

While acting as a vehicle of communication between Greece and the international community, the journal will also be in a position to fruitfully exploit the potential of the Hellenic population abroad and to ultimately offer its valuable services to Greece.
