Turkey - Public Announcement
November 21, 1997

The government of Turkey will conduct a nationwide census on November 30 from 5 a.m. until 7 p.m. During the census, everyone in the country, including foreign residents, tourists, and those transiting the country, will be subject to a curfew from 5 a.m. until 7 p.m. Under the curfew, all persons must remain in their homes or hotels while Turkish government officials conduct the census. Travelers and residents may be asked to answer census questions. Travelers arriving in Turkey by air on November 30 will be counted at the airport and given a pass to allow them to proceed only to their hotel or residence.

This Public Announcement expires on December 1, 1997.
