State Department: Croatia - Public Announcement, February 17, 1995

Croatia - Public Announcement
February 17, 1995

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE

Office of the Spokesman

For Immediate Release

The possible termination of UN Protection Force (UNPROFOR) operations in Croatia at the end of March 1995 and the Croatian Serb suspension of confidence-building measures have heightened tensions in Croatia and could lead to violent incidents at any time between rebel Serb forces and Croatian government forces, especially along the existing ceasefire line. Travel on the recently re-opened section of the Eastern Slavonia highway located in UNPA Sector West (approximately between Novska and Okucani), continues to pose a risk to travelers. Additional information on travel in and to Croatia is available in the Consular Information Sheet for Croatia dated December 27, 1994 or by contacting the American Embassy in Zagreb.
