Office of the Spokesman
The American Embassy in Sofia issued the following announcement to
Americans in Bulgaria on January 15:
"During recent weeks there have been large public demonstrations in
Sofia and other Bulgarian cities. These demonstrations have become
a daily affair and are expected to continue. Organizers have called
for public participation in daily protests from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm

notice. A demonstration on January 10 involved violent clashes
between participants and police. There may also be strikes
disrupting some public services. The Embassy advises all Americans
to exercise caution and to avoid those areas of Sofia and other
cities where demonstrations are likely to occur.
