This was founded in 1995 by the Organization
for the Cultural Capital of Europe Thessaloniki 1997.The exhibition area will be in operation in 1997 at Andreou Georgiou Street, sharing premises with the Museum of the Cinema, while the offices will be located in a traditional building in Anayenniseos street which is currently undergoing renovation.
The Museum already owns the collection donated by the the Greek Museum of Photography,
numbering some 1500 pieces
by Greek and foreign photographers (photographs, negatives, glass plates, etc.) and is planning to enrich its collection
with further acquisitions.
It is also organizing an international meeting on the most effective arrangement of a modern museum of photography.
The Museum activities will include exhibitions of works of Greek artists, research and educational programs as well as
relevant publications (books, albums, exhibition catalogues).
