This was founded in 1993, on private initiative and is the first in Greece
to have as its aim a systematic approach to design.
Since 1995, with the
support of the Organization for the Cultural Capital of Europe Thessaloniki
1997, the Thessaloniki Design Museum has continued to expand its scope and
related activities.
It comprises: A permanent collection* of classic 20th century industrial design objects (approx. 1200 pieces) covering units such as furniture, light fittings, office equipment, domestic appliances, graphics, toys and packaging.
It illustrates the development of design in connection with new
materials, progress in technology, social movements, growing and varying
needs and aesthetic demands.
The objects have been selected for their historical significance.
An exhibition hall for thematic presentations and new projects. A hall for lectures and discussions or similar events that fall within museum interests.
