INFORMATION CONCERNING THE EXHIBITION: "TREASURES OF THE MOUNT ATHOS"
Large numbers of people visit the exhibition of Treasures of Mount Athos every day. The Organization for the Cultural Capital of Europe, "Thessaloniki '97", would like to inform the public of the following:
The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 08:00 to 19:00 hrs., and on Monday, from 12:30 to 19:00 hrs.
The admission price is 2,000 drachmae for adults and 500 drachmae for senior citizens (over 65) and persons with special needs.
Admission is free for young people (under 18), for students of universities and technical colleges, employees of the Ministry of Culture, monks, clergymen, tour guides and those doing their national service.
Admission is free for journalists, at the showing of their professional identification card at the entrance (members of the Athens Journalists' Union, of the Macedonia-Thrace Union, or other equivalent unions), their International Press Card, the identification card of the Medium they work for, or a Press Card, obtainable at the Press Bureau.
The taking of photïgraphs or video tapes of the exhibits is forbidden.
The 670-page-long Catalogue of the Exhibition: "Treasures of Mount Athos", at a price of 10
,000 drachmae, can be bought at the main entrance of the Ìuseum. At the same place, visitors can buy a Guide to the Exhibition and other publications on the subject of the Holy Mountain.
Those interested in a guided tour can contact the Office of the Organization for the Cultural Capital, at the Museum of Byzantine Culture (tel. no.870829, 870830), where there is a list of available guides. Arrangements with the guides must be done in advance, by the interested parties.
If the above-mentioned Office is notified in advance, arrangements can be made for organized groups of visitors to take precedence at the entrance.
Guided tours for groups of students will start in September (the schedule will be announced in due time by the Communication Office).
Due to the sacred nature of the exhibits, visitors must be properly dressed. Visitors wearing shorts, sandals and vacation wear, in general, will not be allowed admission.

Parking accommodation is available at the Municipal car park.
The Exhibition will be open until 31st December 1997.
