The decisive role of shipping in World Economy and Trade is known for three particular reasons:
- Offers lower transport cost against that of other means
- Is an indispensable transport mean for raw materials necessary to the world industry
- Is a contibutive factor to the establishment of smooth and firm international relations
between shipping countries, which are necessary for the growth of Economy.
The fact that sea transport presents each year constant and significant growth is not accidental. In particular:
- The sea carries out 90% of European trade with the rest of the world.
- 35% of internal European trade is carried out likewise.
- 60% of crude oil transported world-wise uses tankers.
Hellenic Merchant Shipping with its international character contributes greatly to the World Trade development.
