Beaches-Campings
The Greek National Organisation of Tourism has organised bathing beaches in Aghia Triada 27 km from Thessaloniki. Open from May 1 to September 30. Cabins, bar, self-service, restaurant, super market, play-ground, tennis and volleyball. It has been awarded with the blue flag of the European Union for the clean beach indicating the care and environmental awareness of the people.( 0392 51360)
There are also camping sites of the Greek National Organisation of Tourism in Epanomi, 35 km from Thessaloniki, ( 0392 41387) and in Asprovalta, 85 km from Thessaloniki, ( 0397 22249). There are also many private camping sites in the area.
50 km from Thessaloniki is Halkidiki with its three peninsulas, Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos. The beaches of Halkidiki awarded with the blue flag of the European Union, are among the cleanest worldwide. Here you can find facilities of all kinds for summer sports, luxurious hotel units, marinas, courts, camping by the sea lined with pine trees, taverns serving fresh fish and night entertainment of the highest standards.
Sports
There is a great number of basketball, football and tennis court, three big swimming pools, both for the athletes and for the public, Palais des Sports in the ground of HELEXPO, two marine clubs where the visitors may enjoy the sea sports, horse-riding clubs, skiing centers within an hour 's distance from the city, and a golf court in Chalkidiki. The visitor may also go for a walk in the promenade, or visit the Zoo in Kedrinos Lofos or the forest nearby.

Ecotourism
Eco-tourism can easily be adapted to Thessaloniki and its surrounding areas because of its natural beauty and landscape. This form of tourism offers the visitor the experience to explore the beautiful sites of the country and the environment. Eco-tourism is slowly being developed by the lakes of Saint Vassilios and Volvi and in the delta of the main rivers of Axios, Loudias and Aliakmonas. The place is home for thousands of birds, plants and many flowers. Furthermore these places are the essential water resources of the area. The lakes can also be used for fishing and for water-sports.
